Acanto condos

Has anyone ever stayed at the Acanto condos on calle 42, between 5th & 10th avenue? They are supposed to be new and are an off-site property for the Acanto hotel. I have read some reviews at TripAdvisor and many expressed being frustrated with the management and feeling they were in a remote area. One person felt the area was unsafe. Any opinions or experiences you would share? The unit I am looking at is a 3 bedroom, 3 level penthouse with a private pool on the rooftop terrace. Sounds great but may not be worth it if I would run into the problems I read in those posts.

Well I can't speak for the management but that is quite a ways north. We stayed at 38th and 10th in March and walking to and from lower 5th can be quite a hike late in the evening BUT I'd not call it unsafe. Perhaps the reviews were from someone not too familiar w/Playa?
Some advantages of the far north end: very quiet, great beaches and lots of new options to try. It's not in the thick of things like lower 5th but I'd not call it "remote". A lot less remote than Playcar IMO!

Unsafe??? No, I don't think so and we (2 single women) walked it late every night.

I don't think I would say unsafe but I agree that that is somewhat remote because it is so far north. Last year we stayed around 28th and 1st and it was a long walk back a few nights so that would be even further. If you're willing to utilize taxis then I think it would be fine. I think it also depends on the kind of experience you want to have. The beaches are beautiful up that way and it will be pretty quiet.

You gotta take those trip advisor reviews with a big fat grain of salt.

Do you need a private butler?... Please take me with you.

I wouldn't call that area "remote", but after 10-11:00, it may become a little deserted, and might not be the best place to wander around alone. It's definitely not like 5th Ave after dark.
