Gala Playacar or barcelo maya beach resort?

My travel agent messed up on a upcoming reservation to playa del carmen and she gave me a choice between these 2 hotels I know the Barcelo is about 20 minutes from playa but it looked nice as did the gala. Please give me your advice on where we should stay we have an 11 year old son. THanks alot. kelly

Your agent messed up and because of that you can only choose between 2 hotels? I never heard of such a thing....how did she mess up? Don't mind me, I'm just curious. :roll:

Anyway, they Barcelo IS as nice as the Gala, if not nicer. The 2 resorts are pretty evenly matched when it comes to food, service and other amenities. The Barcelo has a better beach and the grounds are truly outstanding. Their nightime entertainment is very professional. The Gala is a much smaller hotel and closer to PDC so if that's important to you, your decision should be easier. Both places would be good for an 11 year old as they are both are extremely family friendly hotels. The Gala does have a seperate teen club.
Close your eyes and pick one out of a hat. You really can't go wrong with either.
