ATMs in Playacar
Rather than exchanging my pounds sterling here at home and getting a rubbish exchange rate aswell as having to pay a comission, I will just be withdrawing it as and when I need it in Playa. I've read that there are plenty of ATM's in the town, but are there some in the Playacar area? I'd hate to have to keep going into Playa everytime I need to draw out some cash!

I KNOW there is one (cuz a friend owns it!) right by the entrance gate to Playacar on 10th Ave....thats where the first group of shops start just north of the roundabout. I THINK there might be one in the Playacar Plaza opposite the AI Hotels on Paseo Xaman-Ha.

Hi Gaz,
Using your card is the best way, unless you have a Mexican bank already. There are plenty of ATM,s the closest is in the mini shopping zone next to The Riu Tequila. I use the banks in the Centro Maya shopping plaza across the highway 307. there is at least 2 ATM's in Bancomer and Scotiabank. Word of warning check your card issuer for hidden charges, my bank Barclays charged me £4.60 commision on each 3000 peso withdrawal. They also charged me commission for using my card for buying any goods, worst charge was £35. (it was a fairly big purchase) Think Nationwide is still free from charges. |

Also - depending on your 'daily limit' at home, you can actually withdraw MORE than the amount stated on the screen (some it says 3000, some 5000pesos) IF you are at one of the banks Atm's.
The individually owned ATM's tho (single standing units scattered around) will only allow the max. amount stated. Bank charges tend to be less than the individually owned ones too
