I know that this could sound harsh to some people but Peta needs these kinds of campaigns to draw attention.
Sad enough that commenting peoples weight should be THE issue that attracts our attention to a VERY, very sad thing as whale slaughtering.
When it really should come alone.
I'm with Peta.

And the reason they would target women would be...............? What percentage of whale meat do women eat? I'd leave the health lesson to the health professionals rather than drag in the overused scapegoat of overweight women for the pure fact of grabbing attention. Sorry. Oh...and the fact they try to package into a neat little convenient bundle by proclaiming to want to help people is a load of BS.

Its not the whale meat eating. Its the whale killing, for whatever purpose.
Where is the difference between this ad, and many other ads that picture skinny, horribly malnourished children with flies in their eyes of the 3rd world that could be REALLY hard to watch for many women ( much more than looking at a larger woman), ads that are used for reasons not exactly connected to them.
I think this is far more disturbing than seeing an overweight woman ( with all due respect)

There is a difference between the two campaigns. The photos of underweight and malnourished children are horrific and the cause is FOR the children. Slapping up a picture of an overweight woman does not represent the killing of whales. Had they put a picture of a slaughtered whale up.....then we'd be taking about an equally gruesome comparison. Laying blame on overweight women does nothing for their cause. I happen to be against killing of whales........I would have much preferred a different an advertisement showing what it truly is.....even as horrific as showing a gruesome shot of a slaughtered whale to prove a point. I totally disagree with using someone else as a banner for their own purpose.......an irrelevant one at that.

Anna I hope you are also with Peta when their members perfom acts of "domestic terrorism". I understand their issues, but I love steak and chicken and I will not have anyone tell me how horrible I am for eating it.
My uncle use to own a butcher shop in Indiana, and his shop was vandalize many times by Peta members. How did he know? Because the coward members would leave notes. Also Peta never made any statement distancing themselves from said act.

But as you see, THIS ad with overweight women is making people talk ( well or bad). Oliviero Toscani with Benetton is a very famous photographer that became so partially because his ads were similar..

It may make people talk but it certainly can turn people off who would have otherwise supported them. What is next? Who are they going to offend next? I'm sorry....there is no excuse to lay blame on people have absolutely nothing to do with slaughtering whales. They could have put up billboard of a slaughtered whale and I'm sure there would be plenty of people complaining about how graphic it is. They would have just as much "talk" buzzing about their cause. Instead they chose to target a group of people who get nothing but a bunch of flack about their weight.

I think its far more insulting for overweight people to see fashion files and fashion shows whwre the ultimate woman model is an anorexic and where the gift of beauty is given only to thin women.

I'm with Peta.
Please read up more about PETA and you will see they are not saints by any means. As someone who works in the animal welfare arena, I steer clear of them as I do not agree with alot of their practices.

They are extremely political and if you do not agree with there methods you will be blacklisted as my friends at Wellness Pet Foods were.

Peta has a list of pet foods they consider animal friendly as the companies do not keep animals in lab enviornments to test new formulas.

Wellness was asked to produce their testing process by PETA and they refused as they do no want to their brand associated with them.....so PETA put them on the non animal friendly list on their website.

Really, Well I can tell you first hand that Wellness is an animal friendly company and this is how they test new formulas, btw their pet food are all natural ingredients with no bi products or chemicals.

Stage 1: 3 months the new formula is given to select dogs within humain societies and shelters which are consider controlled enviornments as the animals eat only the kibble served (no human food or treats).

Stage 2: 6 months the new formula is given to all dogs and cats within controlled enviornments mentioned.

Stage 3: 3 months the new formula is shipped to selected households to be served to regular dogs who get treats and whatever their companions usually feed them (my boy likes bananas). I know this as my dogs participate in this testing, hey high quality dog food for free....sure, it's good stuff and all natural.

Does this sound cruel to you? PETA thinks it's cruel to feed homeless animals good quality foods I guess.

PETA's hearts are in the right place but their collective minds are elsewhere.
