I stayed in the Riu Palace a couple of years ago and the rooms were very nicely appointed with a small seating area (love seat size) with a coffee table near the balcony door. At that time there was a dispenser on the wall with bottles of hard liquor and the bar fridge was well stocked with beer and soft drinks. The bathroom had a bidet.

Riu Palace
We will be going to Riu in March. Did you have a favorite a la carte restaurant? Some people have stated that you can use facilities at the other Riu resorts, but not the restaurants. Others have said Riu Palace guests are able to dine at others? Any suggestions or helpful hints? Hoping we will love it as others have . Thanks!

Snoopy, you can use the restaurants in the other 3 Riu's for breakfast or lunch, I believe you are to use the restaurants in your own resort for dinner. Besides Don Julian, the main and buffet restaurent with about 276 feet of buffet counters (I counted it off one night because I couldn't believe there was so much food) there are La Bodega (a Brazilian style ala carte) another near the beach, but not on it, that I was told serves steak and salmon. We can have steak and fresh salmon any night of the week so didn't go there. We did go to Sir Edwards our last night there and it is ala carte serving a choice of 4 or 5 meals. Beef tenderloin, rack of lamb (called lamb chops), red snapper, and duck. Might have been one more. They serve a five course meal with appetizers, choice of 2 soups, choice of salads or mussels, the main course then choice of 3 or 4 deserts. GREAT!!!!
We're already thinking about next year and either return to the Palace or we might go into town and do the non all inclusive thing. There are so many pros and cons for both Enjoy your stay there, and if you haven't already, go to the site I mentioned above and read my review of the resort. Any other questions send me an email. To answer the other part of your question ... room location depends on what you are looking for. If you want the courtyard, you can people watch from your patio (1st floor) or your balcony (2nd & 3rd floors). Keep in mind, the 1st floor courtyard room patios have ZERO privacy as people are walking right in front of you to get from the pool/beach to the lobby, etc -- again, cool if you like to people watch. If you want total privacy, get an "outside" room on the 2nd or 3rd floor. We were on the 2nd and overlooked a bunch of trees and had TOTAL privacy and it was a very peaceful place to rest in the morn & the eve before heading "out". I know some people have complained about noise from the Tequila but we didn't experience any of that. HTH! Have a GREAT time!

We had a 1st floor courtyard view room and privacy was not a problem. The nearest sidewalk was about 75 - 100 ft away and the patio is surrounded by hedges about 2 - 3 ft high. We slept with our patio doors open and it was great to hear the fountains come on just before 7:00 am each morning. It was our alarm clock. It was really nice to be able to look out and watch guests and employees going by. Only surprise one day was we were lying on the patio and the water sprinklers started up right in front of us. We laughed and so did the gardener. When we return we'll definately try to get a courtyard view again. As Kosmo says, it all depends what you like.
