Getting warm where you live?

New study links current events to climate change

By Seth Borenstein

August 5, 2012 4:46 AM GMTUpdated:

WASHINGTON -- The relentless, weather-gone-crazy heat that has blistered the United States and other parts of the world in recent years is so rare that it can't be anything but man-made global warming, according to a new statistical analysis from a top government scientist.
The research by a man often called the "godfather of global warming" says that the likelihood of such temperatures occurring from the 1950s through the 1980s was rarer than 1 in 300. Now, the odds are closer to 1 in 10, according to the study by NASA scientist James Hansen. He says that statistically what's happening is not random or normal, but pure and simple climate change.
"This is not some scientific theory. We are now experiencing scientific fact," Hansen said.

It seems that every time we have a surge in temperatures. The surge is right after the sun has a big eruption of its gamma rays.

Than it is the summer. I thought that we're suppose to have hot weather during the summer.

From here

"This is not healthy. We can talk past each other, close our ears, put our heads in the sand, or join the local chapter of the Flat Earth Society, but here's the thing - the atmosphere doesn't care.

"Its temperature will continue its implacable rise, with all the consequences that entails, unless we act to stop it."

So does this mean that. All the old studies are worthless?

Its quite an interesting article - thanks Riss.

It doesn't change imo the fact that we (world population) should make less mess, reduce our consumption, and make the world a cleaner place though.

well, of course it doesn't! Whether or not there really is warming, has little to do with lessening pollution and working toward cleaner air and water and working on our population control....ITA.

Did Murdoch's The Australian Misrepresent IPCC Chair Pachauri on Global Warming?

Despite the lack of useful verifiable content, the story headline has nevertheless gone viral. This is not the first time Lloyd has been caught misrepresenting climate science in The Australian - in January of this 2013 he wrongly claimed that a study had found no link between global warming and sea level rise. Oceanographer John Church, who was co-author on the misrepresented research in question and also Nuccitelli et al. (2012) from which Figure 1 above originated, set the record straight, and The Australian was forced to retract the article.

When to Say No to Keystone XL

It is these long-term consequences that Mr. Obama should focus on. Mainstream scientists are virtually unanimous in stating that the one sure way to avert the worst consequences of climate change is to decarbonize the world economy by finding cleaner sources of energy while leaving more fossil fuels in the ground. Given its carbon content, tar sands oil should be among the first fossil fuels we decide to leave alone.

US lawmakers draft bill to speed decision on Keystone pipeline | Reuters

Quote:
One of the main arguments environmentalists have made against the pipeline is that it would greatly accelerate oil sands development, exacerbating climate change.

which is totally ridiculous, if we don't pump it down to the US, we will just load it on tankers and ship it to China....no difference in the end to the speed of the oil sands development at all, just more waste.
