Need a hand?
Hola Amigos!!!
ok so i live in playa now! yay! i am taking spanish classes for half a day and have time for some volunteer work on the side, preferably to do with people, locals. i used to volunteer at the homeless shelter back home in canada. do you know of any opportunities to be helpful around here? i speak a bit of spanish right now, enough to understand the day to day but not fluent yet. I'm most interested in volunteer opportunities within the playa community and secondly opportunities to do with animals and environment. Ideas? Thanks!!! |

If you look around on here, you will find the Peanut Pet Shelter and a cat rescue project. I believe schools are always pretty much in need of supplies etc.
I have the idea of helping Mayans learn Spanish and English when I get there next year, so they can get better jobs etc.. A taxi driver I talked to in June had paid over 300.00 US for English classes, and he knew maybe two words of English. His wife was Maya and knew little Spanish even... seems the local and indigenous people realize the need for language skills, but are being taken advantage of by some of the schools in the area. I cold be wrong, but just a thought Last edited by playafava; 09-29-2009 at 02:25 PM.. |
