Mayan Palace
We were originally booked at the Adventura Spa Palace but our old Travel agent made some errors and now we are booked into the Mayan Palace. (Notice I said old Travel agent). We are hoping to find out the 28th about an upgrade, but incase we don't can anyone tell us about the Mayan Palace and the beaches nearby? Also would like to know about events and things to do. We arrive on the 3rd of Jan. for 7 days. Thanks

Mayan Palace
Thanks. But other than your reply and their web site I can not find out much about what is around the resort. I can not find it listed on very many posts and not much information out there about it.

There is nothing around the Mayan Palace. This in itself is not odd though, there are quite a few resorts that are set off in an area by themselves. But the place is HUGE, a time share heaven.
However, my suggestion would be to try very hard, in fact, you may want to just about insist on getting yourself transfered to.....anywhere else. Since it is your old travel agents fault, it shouldn't be a problem making that happen. |

There is quite a bit posted about the Mayan Palace; it should be available through a search of the archives. I stayed there in April; for my trip report, just click to see all my posts -- it's in there somewhere!
First, if beach quality and beach-oriented activities are important to you -- I would ride herd on that travel agent to get you somewhere else! The Mayan Palace has a beach that's okay to look at; but it's very rocky under the layer of imported sand, and there is no painless entry into the water. The resort is also a work-in-progress which would compare poorly to the "finish" of the Aventura Spa Palace. Also, the MP is not adults-only, which I believe the ASP is. I would NOT consider it a comparable exchange! The pool area at the MP is finished and awesome and a great place to catch rays (very easy to find private spots to make it seem adults-only, at least!). Our room was nicely finished and furnished. There are quite a few activities planned at the resort; the menu of daily poolside activities doesn't vary much day-to-day. The activities staff does a great job. And there are nightly shows. We didn't see all of them, but would recommend the Mexican Fiesta highly. If you end up "stuck" at the MP, you can still have an enjoyable vacation. But if you booked the ASP with specific amenities in mind (beach, for example) I don't think you'll be happy. Make that agent hustle to get you into a new resort, or at least make him/her throw in some goodies to "sweeten" the pot! |

Thanks
:o MWC, thanks for heading me into the achrives. I had been there on a search but guess I did not go far enough. There seems to be some mixed feelings on the resort. Kinda late for us to change so am planning to be there on the 3rd. We stay in Cancun on the 1st and 2nd. I think by learning from everyones experiences we can have a good time. Not too much into swimming in the ocean, Brenda just wants to lay out and enjoy the beauty of the moment. No kids for us so don't have to worry about keeping them entertained. We are just looking to have a good time away from the hustle of our own business. As Kenny Chesney sings " no shirt, no shoes, no problem.

Ron & Brenda --
Good for you, to stay so positive and flexible! As I said in my trip report, one can easily have a great vacation at MP. Now that you have a better idea of what to expect, you should be able to make appropriate plans (or none at all!). Have fun! I envy you! |

Thanks
Thanks for the help. I don't know when we ever looked forward to a vacation as much as this one. We have owned our own business for the last four years and for the last year it has been a 14 hour day six and seven day week. We are ready to take the time off. Brenda wanted everything to go perfect and then the burp by the travel agent and we started over ourselves and put it back together. I know we will find plenty of sun and fun. If anybody is going to be there Jan. 3rd to the 10th. let me know we could hook up for a meal or drinks.

Mayan Riveria - October 2004
Hi all. We are going in October 2004 to the Mayan Riveria. Please tell me it is better than what I have been reading. I was so excited when we were able to exchange in. We have a two bedrooom booked with another couple. Any info would be appreciated. Do we rent a car? Money? etc.

Mayan Palace
:-? My husband and I are leaving for the Mayan Palace, Playa del Carmen with another couple that have the time share on Feb 21st. Is there more than one Mayan Palace? We are like the other couple, we are going to be optimistic and make the best of the time that we have there. I don't think we will do the all inclusive though...good idea?

You are not given an all-inclusive option. You are free to make any meals you want in your unit (small kitchens, tho); you are free to leave the facility for any meals, any time. What does happen is that they take an imprint of a credit card when you check in, and you are issued a plastic wristband. You are free to order from any bar or restaurant or shop in the resort, and it will be charged to your room. This way, you do not have to carry cash anywhere. I did a pretty detailed trip report on my stay at the MP in April 2003. Search with me as the author, and it should come up. |
