Cabo trip report Sept19th to 26th 2009

Hi all,

The wife and I had decided to get away for a week to celebrate our 10th anniversary. This trip we would be traveling with out our kids.

Quick little about us, we try to travel every year and alternate between taking the kids and going with out them. Last year we stayed at the Sunset Princess and it was OK for a family getaway except it was a little to far from Playa for my liking. The year before we stayed
At The Royal and love it, it was in town and had a good beach for people watching and so on.

This Year we decide we would do something other then the Mayan coast and I started to do some research. I really like Mexico and also like to be close to a town like Playa, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo, Ixtapa and so on. Only Problem was there were no direct flights or AL packages out of Toronto.

One night in June Iím on VRBO and input my info on an owners add for a place in Cabo,
I then started looking for some flights but didnít find anything at a good price. The next day this guy calls me at home and finds me a great deal on a flight, sounds like he really wants my business with the bad economy and the just past swine flu garbage. Anyway to make a long story short he gave me a great price for a one week stay at a fractional ownership property called Villa La Estancia. The unit was second floor right on the beach, I though I did pretty well. Let me just say this, I almost felt bad when we got back for the money I paid the place was Fantastic 5 star + very upscale super clean top notch resort I felt like I had just ripped someone off.(good feeling not bad).

Trip report Ė This is the first time for my wife going away non AI so I'm hoping it all works out. In the end we have decided that when it is just her and I traveling and our destination allows us to we will always travel Non AI.

Our flight was on US Air through Phoenix quick stop and switch of planes it was OK nothing of note happened.

We arrive at the Cabo San Lucas airport hook up with our pre booked transfers cost was $30 each round trip. Pre booked with Cabo San Lucas tours. We were the last to be dropped off but that worked out great. Since we hadnít been in Cabo before we got to see some of the area and other resorts, plus it was just past 2pm local time and we had been awake and on route since 4 am EST both the wife and I are starving so I ask the driver If he was interested in me buying him lunch and he was all into it so I told him to bring us to a good local taco place that he would usually eat at. He ends up bring us to a place called Gardenias, I canít believe my luck this place is on my list of places to try itís a great little place that serves delicious authentic Baja fish tacos, as well as other taco stand type fare. We order some fish , shrimp, beef and pork tacos to go and they put everything in bags and off we got to the Estancia to check in.

More please!

We have only been to Cabo once, we stayed in town, a couple blocks from the mall, at the Cabo Inn. It was very cheap but....interesting.

We quite enjoyed it other than the COLD ocean, and the over-Americanization of everything...we prefer a more Mexican destinaton, which for us is Zihua or Huatulco or a place like Barra de Navidad. But I bet if we stayed in a 5 star there it would have been a very different vacation for us.

We finished eating and unpacked then headed to Wal-Mart for some supplies. We pick up bottled water, yogurt, fruits, cereal and milk we didnít need to buy coffee because we brought some Maxwell House from home. We also purchased two six packs of beer and a bottle of wine. By the time we left there was still 4 bottles of beer in the fridge and we packed the bottle of wine to bring home. We did go through two cases of water. We are not big drinkers but we would have a couple when we went out to dinner and have the odd one by the pool, another reason we really donít need AI.

I donít recall going out when we returned, I think we hit the sack.

Some pics from the balcony when we first arrived, the waves were really big the owners on the resort said that they usually donít get that big it looked more like the pacific side.
By the way we were staying on Medano Beach which is the only swim able beach in Cabo.

Great start. The tacos look SO good. I have found the EASIEST way to upload is to open a photbucket account. It's free. You can upload to photobucket for other web uses and sharing (and very easily size and attach them here.) Some of the pros here can help as you out as well. Babaloo? Where are you? Good luck.

I used Potobucket for awhile. Then I discovered Photobucket and I have to say I am very impressed.

If it's saying your file is too big then you may have to resize them - Photobucket has pre-selected sizes available, sm / med / lrg check that & make sure they aren't just too big.

Now if the actual code isn't working make sure you're copying the entire code or make sure you're selecting the code for, I believe it says chat borads, forums, etc.

Hope this helps, I'd love to read more!

I for some reason don't see any pictures of tacos

Can't wait to read more. We are hoping to go to Cabo in April. Can you please tell me where you found your research at (places to eat, things to do, etc.).

Looking forward to more!

Ok I have edited the size but when I try up loading I'm still getting an In Valid.

Lucy E , I looked all over the web for a site like this for Cabo, I had no luck finding anything. I used the Cabo forum on Trip adviser. Once I can figure out how to post Pic if you like what you see and want to stay non AI I can pass some contact info on to you. Also I have some really good info to pass on, just ask.

Now back to my pics I have never had this problem before any other suggestions out there.

Is your browser and operating system up to date?

I'm still using Firefox 2.0.0.20 and I have the same problem. It used to be fine but as it's got older this problem has started. I can't upgrade it without upgrading my Mac OS first.

Or try using a different browser to view Photobucket and Playa.info. That can work too.
