Definitely it's the Riu Playacar north of Viva Maya. Does that mean that's where the staging area and feeder line has been all along? It was suggested earlier that it was in front of the Riu Palace Mexico. I'm still trying to figure out if that staging area will be the one feeding right up to the pier and if so all those resorts from VM to Reef Playacar will be affected for some time yet.

We're going to the Playacar Palace Feb 4th-14th. We spoke with the Palace, and they said the beach repair would be Feb4th-9th. Bad timing for us, but not a big deal. We'll go over to Cozumel Palace to dive, Adventura for the spa and maybe to Cancun Palace for the beach.

I hate to ask this question again but does it look like the "staging area" in front of the Riu Playacar would be gone by Feb 19th?

The staging area and feed pipe is on the north edge of the Wyndham viva Maya. Actually in front of the resort that is immediately north of viva Maya. Can't recall the name of the place.

I don't know anything about the area south of sandos. There's still equipmen tworking o. That breakwater on southern edge of sandos.

For the person who just booked the viva Azteca from the 2nd to the 8 th. You are definitely going to be affected by beach closure there. Theymightbe finished there the last couple of days of your stay. I'm guessing the Wyndham viva Maya will be taking beach guests from the azteca. So you should still have a beach to go to. It's about a 5 minute walk.

I'll probably only have one more update tonight or tomorrow morning. Wer
're checking out of riu tequila tomorrow at noon and going over to the fusion hotel in town for a few days. Been fun passing on the info to all concerned. Iknow I appreciated the photos and videos before we came down, last week.

great job sparky. excellent reporting...clear and to the point. the hotel next to the maya is the riu playacar. at least those guests can go to the yucatan.

overall i think they planned this whole thing very well...with as little disruption to hotels as possible.

Azteca

Is it possible to use a neighbouring beach? I'm not sure how many beaches they rip up at once.

The Viva Maya is complete so does anyone know if they shuttle people from the Azteca to the Maya? I'm not sure if they did this while the Maya beach was closed.

I've never been to Playa Del Carmen and I am going just for the beaches so I have no idea what my alternative options are if I can't switch resorts. I appreciate the help!

The beaches are public so you can walk along them, swim in the sea, just can't use loungers or facilities of resorts you're not associated with. The Azteca is only 4 resorts north of the Maya so transportation wouldn't be needed.

Sparky - can you confirm where the feeder pipe from the water is. Earlier you stated it was in front of the Riu Palace Mexico, now you're saying it's on the north side of the Viva Maya which puts it a full resort north of the RPM. Now if it was on the south side of the Viva Maya that would make it on the property line of the Viva Maya and the RPM. I can't see them moving the pipe from the dredger to the beach or is it flexible and can be moved more easily than those on the beach?

I've just looked again at the video Babaloo posted and the pipe coming in from the sea is definitely on the edge of the Viva Maya and Riu Palace Mexico not the Riu Playacar. It's on the south side of the Viva Maya not north so presume that's still the case unless they've changed it.

I just went on google earth and zoomed in on the resorts in Playacar. The feeder pipe definitely comes ashore on the propertly line between Riu Palace mexico and Wyndham Viva Maya. sorry for any confusion. When I'm walking the beach There aren't any clear signs for each resort and I'm looking at lounger chairs. Sipping on margaritas loaded with tequila doesn't help either! Anyways... that feeder pipe hasn't moved since they set it up last Tuesday. All they did was swing the "elbow" on the pipe to pump northward.

I haven't gone for a walk to the north so can't report any progress there. access along the beach is closed right at the Wyndahm viva maya property.

We've had a great time here despite the beach closure. Those of you headed here and worried about it.... Don't! There are plenty of places to get beach time and the resorts are accommodating guests at neighboring resorts. It'll all work out.

Adios for now and have a great mayan vacation.

Mike.

The Google Earth images in this area are over two years old -
Do you have a special deal with them?

Babaloo.... No! No deal with google. Hehe. I was just referencing it to see where the location of a beach building was. Clearly the pipe is not on google earth. The scuba dive hut located on the south edge of viva maya property is where the pipe comes ashore. I haven't seen you video yet, but it sounds like you were there.

One more thing, Babaloo... Are you using a black Canon HD cam on a tripod to record the beach video? I saw someone a couple days ago walking the beach and periodically stopping to pan some video and jot a couple notes down. Was that you?
