We were actually watcing a bit of this today. It appears that they have finally started. They are starting at the pier and going south. Can't really figure out what they are doing, but there are HUGE mounds of sand in front of GPR...One of the managers at a beach club we were at, said they plan on doing 100meters per day...Should be interesting to see what it looks like our next trip down.

Yes, it is happening now!! I will be interested to see how long the sand stays around with the particular currents swirling between the two piers.

I'm watching the progress on the Grand Porto webcam. Looks like they are hauling in the sand to be spread at a later time? Anyone know what thier exact plan is? I thought they would be pumping the sand in and slowly working across the beach? Or are they building a bit of a raised work platform for the pipes first?

Try this link for an iPhone shot I took yesterday morning, if you like.

Mobile Photobucket

Seems like the idea is to use a backhoe to push back all the sand you can, and then dump in the new sand in the area you pushed the old sand out of.

Michelle, half of the sand that was placed yesterday between the Porto Real and the new condos where the Blue Beach was-is already GONE! Winded shifted during the night and took the sand with.

I'm going to be watching these webcams religiously in the next 5 days. I'll be arriving noon on the 15th, staying at Illusions till the 19th, then going to the Riu Tequila. Hopefully the restoration work doesn't follow us South.

Yes, thanks for the update. Looks like I'll have to bring my Hardhat and steel toe sandals with me while I'm there.

we will be arriving at the IB tucan this saturday. Is the beach reconstruction work happening near their beach? How is their beach holding up?
