Hotel Paradise, Alejari hotel or La Tortuga
Has anyone stayed at the La Tortuga, Hotel Alejari or Hotel Paradise in the past few weeks? We are planning our first trip to PDC from Edmonton Canada and would appreciate any information anyone has.
Thanks. Also wondering if it is necessary to book rooms in advance for middle of February or wing it and wait until you're there. |

Wife and I stayed at La Tortuga in early December. We got a room with roof top jacuzzi. While it was kinda neat i'm not sure i'd spring for the extra money next time. I would however stay there again. It's not 5 star but it is nice, clean and the staff are ultra-friendly and helpful. I'd also look at Playa Maya. While in PDC we walked into playa maya and could have gotten a very nice room with small balcony, some ocean view and all that on the beach for same price.. at the time it was $95.00. Worth checkin into anyway.

La Tortuga
We stayed at La Tortuga last year and really enjoyed it - in fact we are going back this year. I agree with the above post - the roof top jacuzzi rooms are OK - but I also would not pay extra for one. Last year we had a room on the third floor overlooking the pool - very nice for the price - this year we have booked a swim-up room. The hotel is extremely clean and the staff couldn't be more helpful. The pool is very nice, especially after a long day at the beach. Their beach club, Mamitas, is on a beautiful stretch of beach in North Playa and the hotel is conveniently located near "all of the action" on 5th Avenue. I would highly recommend this hotel.

No question is "dumb"!!
Hotel La Tortuga has a small pool with a "moat" (I guess you could call it that) that cirles around the courtyard. There are about five or six rooms on the ground floor that have direct access to the "moat" from the patio. If you check out their website (just click on PDC directory - hotels and then La Tortuga on this website) and you can get an idea of what I am talking about!

Hotel Paradise was ok
I stayed at Hotel Paradise May 22-25, and it was ok. The bed was way too hard, felt like a slab of concrete. I really liked the pool, it is shaded by nice trees, and has a beautiful garden. The room was very bare, had to rent a fridge, the air conditioner was not very good, became extremely hot during the day, the clientele is German, very nice people, the lady (Mrs. Rolf Lieber) was very nice and accommodating. It is far from 5th Avenue, the restaurant across the street, Tantra, is absolutely the best, great sushi. I would not stay here again, it did not have a safe in the room, no phone, and the beds just did not suit me. I walked over to Hotel Tortuga, spoke with a nice lady who said she liked her room, the pool was weird, sort of like a canal, rather than a large pool, the hotel seemed very airy and comfortable, it had nice sofas by the pool, had a Mexican decor, seemed nice, did not see the rooms though. My favorite hotel is Hotel Deseo, which I moved to later in the week, or you could try Mosquito Blue, I stayed there in February. I also checked out Hotel Qunito Sol, really nice, and Hotel Amanceer, extremely nice, I like the north end, stay away from Avenue Juaraz, awful.

Recommendation!!!
I have stayed at La Tortuga three times since May 2003 and have another stay planned/booked there in August. I have become addicted to Playa and just can't seem to get enough of it and the hotel La Tortuga. I am always treated very well by the staff at Tortuga. I have stayed in both the jacuzzi suites and the swim-up rooms. I personally like the swim-up room. It is nice to be able to sit out on your balcony and dangle your feet in the pool. Make sure and take advantage of happy hour with Antonio from 5-7. Have fun!!!

Roof top suite
Wife and I stayed at Tortuga and we also had a roof top suite (room 302) We loved it and would pay the extra $ for it. We used it every day and if gave us another space to hang out in other than the room. I have loads of pics of the room, if you want to see them email me via this site and I'll send them to you.

I stayed at the alejari. there are so many great hotels in the area. i needed a room with a king/queen in a seperate room and two queens for the boys. The family of four loved the alejari. Hi lites were cheaper on the beach beer and 2for 1 margaritas and the best quac we had . The place isnt deluxe, but its the cheapest on the beach..the added value for me was the one two floor two room unit and the great service and cheap drinks and free breakfast. The family of four was on a budget...Pops picked the cheapest on the beach place with a two bedroom room. The whole family loved it.I will stay there again because it exceeded my expectations for the price.
