I climbed Coba on March of 2008 and it wasn't to bad. Mitch brought us to Coba and we hired a guide. Between Mitch and the guide, it was very interesting. I would recommend contacting Mitch at YucaTreks. When I climbed to top you could look out over the entire area and it was very beautiful.

Funny that I stumbled across this thread as I posted a query about about this elsewhere.

I too did the climb at Nohoch Mul back in 07 and was amazed that I made it up.......................AND DOWN in one piece and with no assistance. only saw the pyramid from afar at Chichen Niza back on 06 but it was closed then for refurbishent.

Is the one at CN open for climbing?

We went Thursday and climbed that bad boy all the way to the top. Legs are finally starting to feel better.

Coba Climb

Yep, I can confirm it was open for climbing on Friday. But I have never seen so many people at Coba, ever. It was like rush-hour traffic going up Nohoch Mul. : (

I'm confused does anyone know if you can climb or not? I can't find an official website.

I'm gonna go with it's open for climbing now and just check back closer to time for our trip. I read on another thread that it was going to close in April. But as I've seen here, information is a little unreliable on this subject. Not anyone's fault, just everyone gets told different things. Besides we'll go even if we can't climb it which may be for the best. I hurt for days after climbing Chichen Itza.

Coba climbing is not for the weak of heart. Not a hard climb for me, but the way down is one to take seriously (I saw a lot of people going down on their caboose). I think a firemans pole would be a lot safer although, maybe not as much fun!

My caboose will be my mode of transportation down as well...I thought that was the wisest decision when I descended CI as well. I think a fireman's pole would be a blast to go down! It might get a little hot though.

So, is Coba still open to climb? My son and godson were there late December and we'd heard it was closing to big pyramid to climbing at the end of 2009. They mentioned (and this coming from 22 year olds) some crazy young guy running down and scaring people. Crazy, eh. Anyway, what a beautiful view from up top!

Chichen Itza has been closed to climb for more than a few years now.
