We were there just less than a month ago and they were allowing climbing then with no mention at all from the guide that they were closing it down.
Another positive vote for Mitch and Yucatreks.

Hi Leia-
We are planning this same trip through Yucatreks next month and hope we can still climb it.

Update on climbing?

Taking off in one week to Playa. Does anyone have an update on if Coba or Chichen Itza is closed for climbing? I'd love to climb one when I'm there!

Thanks All!!!!!

Chichen Itza has been closed for climbing for a couple years.

Yes, they do, it's scheduled for Thursdays on their calendar. Check their
link on the 'Trip Planning' tab at the top of the page.

Yes Yucatreks definitely still do Coba, we were in PDC 2 years ago and went on this excursion and we are returning in June with our son and his GF and we have already booked with Yucatreks for this trip on 17th June.
One of the best excursions we have ever been on and really looking foreword to doing the trip again.

Absolutely agree! but I wish we had been able to get photos of the crocs in the lake... they weren't around when we stopped for lunch.

We saw one croc after lunch and I swear it was dead. Nope, got closer and it opened ONE eye, then closed it !! Be careful !!

I was watching a commercial vacation show on television here in the UK this morning and between showing hotels they had film of excursions around the Cancun area.
They showed a film clip of the pyramid of Kukulkan at Chichen Itza with people climbing it and then the presenter said that people would have to come and see the view from the top for themselves to experience it!!
I can't believe that they were still using this old footage and dialogue,if I was planning a trip for the first time (which I am not) I would have been very disappointed to find that you have been unable to climb the pyramid for several years.

On a separate note this guy was near where we stopped for lunch with Yucatreks a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the pics Roadgiant! that's about as close as I would want to be! if you don't mind, I would like to send them to our relies in Brum. They were with us but weren't fussed at all about not having an opportunity to photograph any!

Thanks for the pics Roadgiant!

You're welcome, as far as how close I was, it was about 12 feet, but what surprised us was how close to the croc some of the local dogs went, which was a lot closer than I did!!!
