only moderators can post topics...WHAT THE....?
I have been to your forum: Changarros y más...
And tried to post a new topic. I received this message: "Sorry, but only moderators can post topics in this forum." Gotta say this is a first. I have been joining different forums for the last year and this is a new one. I hope someone here can explain the reasoning behind this policy. If I am unable to post a topic to your forums then your forum is useless to me and your "moderators" are left with nothing to moderate. Let me know when your forums are open to everyone, not just the cool kids in class. sheesh, anyone else offended? |

It's actually very common to have certain forums open only to moderators or certain user groups. This allows us to control things a bit. Any registered user can post a reply to the existing posts.
This will not change on the Changarros y Mas forum. We've covered many of the principal areas of this subject. If anyone has a suggestion for another topic, a simple PM to me usually gets a new post up. I disagree very much that it makes that forum useless. I've received quite a bit of feedback praising how this information has enabled many visitors to explore areas they might not have. Quote:
I must admit I find your strong reaction to this feature of our site is a bit puzzling. |

Nope, not offended. Nevertheless, I was just there and looking to start a topic, so here it is -
I'm looking for a thread on the theme of the Changarros y mas board, localized to the area between Akumal and Tulum. You might want to widen it or narrow it to something else covering the communities along Hwy 307 or beyond? There are some holes in the wall down the highway offering tasty treats, no? I've observed that free resources oftentimes get more compaints than those you pay for. I wonder why. |

James,
Thank you for your reply. I belong to 8 different forums, (maybe more) I have been an asset to all of them. And I have participated in many more. Not counting Yahoo! which I consider to be in a different category, none of the forums I have run across has yet to limit posts. That's why my reaction is so strong. This forum appears to be a public discussion, when you limit access to what would otherwise seem to be a public forum, you belie a motive other than serving the community. And I do appreciate this forum. I would not be commenting here if it did not merited concern. Sorry to ruffle everybodies feathers, apparently I hit a sore spot. If I thought that this forum was totally useless, I would have simply moved on without comment. I will not be asking permission via a pm to post a message to your forums. If you don't trust my ability to post, like I said, I am in the wrong class. And I am not the only one to post a question to this policy. I have seen another here. I don't expect you to read all of the posts in these forums, please don't ask me to go back through them to find the other dissenter. I posted in hopes that you would see my comment. You have. And like I said, I appreciate your reply as will as my ability to post a challenging question. Regards, |
