Fire Department Update
I spoke with Fire Chief Brian the other day. Thanks to recent fundraising efforts (tshirts sales, as well as donations from local businesses) we now have 11 out of 18 vehicles back in service!
We still want those last 7 trucks back on the road for high season next month, so as ever, the fundraising continues! Brian is also dedicated to raising the funds for new sets of "jaws of life", and tells me that it is imperative that we also aquire thermal imaging cameras for our fire fighters. I will be down at the ferry dock most days selling shirts and hats so please come on down and load up! They make great souvenirs for the folks back home and they support a great cause...I cant think of many souvenirs that actually save lives! Remember, you can find a million shirts that say "playa del carmen", but these shirts also say that you care about playa del carmen! For those of you that havnt seen it, here again is my video interview with Brian. He gives a brief history of our beloved bomberos, and discusses his future fundraising goals. |

Got to meet Brian at the peepmeet on 11/5 at BadBoys. Had a very interesting conversation on local efforts as well as his background in California ( I had just accepted a job in LA and was watching the '89 World Series when the quake hit-he was out there for it and the aftermath)
Fortunately the day before the peepmeet I had gone by to meet Russell in order to drop off some meds and picked up a Bomberos hat and shirt ![]() .Didn't really look at the shirt until we got home the following week-very cool design and we will surely be loading up with some more in March!

We are currently selling the shirts in two locations:
1. At the corner of Constituyentes & 5th Ave. Look for us on the south side of the intersection in front of the big steel wall....that sucker radiates a bit o heat, I'll tell ya! whew! 2. 8th and 5th across from La Parrilla Restaurant. We set up a small table, MOST DAYS from 10am to 2pm, then again at around 5 pm to 9pm. As always, shirts are 250 pesos or 20 USD...(XXL 300 pesos or 25 dollars). Proceeds go directly to maintenance and equipment. The Abyss Dive centre, Geofish Dive centre, Hotel La Rana Cansada, Dirty Martini Lounge, and PG Sandbox, also all have a small inventory of shirts for sale. Just got back yesterday and bought 2 tee shirts while we were down there to support the cause/bring home great souvenirs!!
On the bus on the way to Playa, we saw a rescue truck working an accident, right at PdC on the highway... couldn't see the cars but it looked like they had someone on a gurney. It made the fund raising/tee shirts seem more real seeing them hard at work to help an injured person! |

Very impressive video!
I am a professional firefighter/paramedic and am very much looking forward to my upcoming visit this January. i will make a point of stopping by to pick up a few T-shirts and making a donation. Is there anything else that is needed? |
