I maintain a private, air-conditioned van is the way to go for this group. You can rent it for a number of hours and make multiple stops, no hassle and it's comfortable. The driver can even provide a cooler so you can stop for ice and beverages to make your trip more fun.

I certainly don't think of Playa as sleepy! I wouldn't have chosen it for my bday and NYE if I did, I like to have fun!
Hey Lush, there are not any "beach bars" in Cancun at all. There are a couple bars in the party zone that sit beach side that you have a view of the beach, but not like PDC, or the ones south of PDC. Just MHO, but maybe skip a Cancun trip and next time down, stay in one of the Cancun resorts and explore Cancun then. Have fun

Check these guys out for fishing. Cozumel Fishing Charters - Deep Sea Sportfishing in Cozumel Mexico. We went out with them this past April and we are going back out with them next Tuesday when we come back down. They will customize your trip however you want. For example if you want to go deep sea fishing and then snorkeling for an hour or two and then go back to fishing or trolling or whatever. They are great. They go out of Cozumel and just south of Playa out of Porta Adventuras. Here is video from our trip back in April:

Thanks for your responses. How much would the private van cost? I'm surprised the bus is that nice!! If we go as a group, I want to have private transportation, but if we go in the week after our friends leave, then my bf and I might just take the bus.

Someone on TA suggested we go to Isla for beach bars and when I was researching a didn't happen Cancun trip, I really wanted to visit! We might go to Isla in the morning, shopping, dinner, then back home. Or stay for one night on Isla. Then we still get to see Cancun and Isla too! Thoughts?

I would skip it, but we're there for 2 weeks so I see no reason not to go. If we don't care for it much, then we'll be happy we know not to vacation there and if we like it, we can squeeze it in somewhere between the many places we want to visit. If we don't get to it, I won't be upset or anything, but I would like to try to go.

Also the owner says our condo is in Little Italy?? No Italian resto suggestions?

Ok.. I'm a big Isla Mujeres fan. I have gone there more than PDC in the last 10 years. It is VERY EASY to get there from PDC. Take the bus from PDC to Cancun. The bus is nice and its cheap. Catch a taxi from the Cancun bus station to Puerto Juarez, cost is 5 to 6 US$ one way. Take the ferry to Isla. Stay at one of the mom and pop places right in town. Yes Isla has great beach bars on Playa Norte. Its a beautiful place to go. Its not big party place, but you can always make your own party.

BTW... like Rick/babaloo says.. cool people take the bus.

Click on the link I provided in my first response and it will take you to the page where you can fill out a form to tell what you envision for the day. The rate is based on the number of hours, where you start from and where you want to go, so if you fill out that form, tomorrow you'll get a quote for your needed service.

Hey Princess, I will be there then with lots of time on my hands. I could be your cooler maintenance supervisor for the day trip to Cancun. From personal experience I have vast knowledge on how they work and the type of beverage that works best in one. Heck, I can even supply the cooler. I will need to do a little work on my fashionable side but I am sure someone here will help. Have a good time and hope to run into you. Attend or start a peep meet for extra fun.
