I've never seen that happen!
Sounds like they maybe overreacted a bit- unless maybe they really did say that bit about causing chaos once in the air- then I don't blame them for kicking them off.
And drunks can be very annoying for the other passengers, and in a small, confined space, where some people are already nervous travellers- the crew certainly have the right to refuse service to obviously drunken passengers, not only for safety reasons but for the other passengers' comfort.
