Our Thanksgiving Vacation in Playa - Nov. 20th - Nov. 28

After returning from our fabulous vacation to Playa in June, we quickly tried to figure out how soon we could return. I didn’t have too many vacation days left at work, so we decided to go back during Thanksgiving. It worked out well for me, because that meant that I did not have to cook on Thanksgiving!! Woo hoo, win win situation for me!! So we booked a condo and then we got our airfare. It was pretty pricy for airfare, but it was the best deal we could find. Good thing we booked when we did, because I never saw the air go back down to the price we got it at, so I was happy.
Friday, November 20, 2009:
After going to bed around 1:00 a.m., I didn’t think I would sleep because I was too excited! I did wake up a couple of times during the night, but I think I got in some pretty good naps! Got up around 5:00 a.m., showered and packed the last minute items and we got to the airport a little before 7:00 a.m. We checked in, checked in our luggage with not much of a wait, so we went to breakfast at McDonalds. Yes folks I said it. We actually ate there. Actually wasn’t much of a choice where we were at. I had the McSkillet burrito, it actually wasn’t bad, but then I also had decaf… I just don’t understand why so many people like McDonald’s coffee… I didn’t drink it. YUK. Seems like the only time I have McDonalds is when we are travelling (good thing!).
Our flight left around 9:50 am, pretty uneventful. They offered us pasta or chicken. Michael and I had the chicken and Camille had the pasta. It was pretty good. No movie though. We arrived in Cancun a little after 4:00 p.m. There was this very long line to go through Customs so I waited in the line while Camille and Michael waited for our luggage. We filled out our swine flu papers and then waited in line to go through the x-ray machine. We pushed the button and wouldn’t you know it, I got the red light! This is the first time that I’ve ever gotten the red light in my whole life travelling to Mexico. When I got the red light I looked over at Michael… see, you jinxed us! He was worried about all the stuff we packed to bring, that he kept telling me, what if they search us (as he’s vacuuming our space bags to take the air out of the bag to make our stuff more compact to fit the most in our luggage). I was like don’t worry, people bring stuff all the time. And he was like, yeah but this much! So I said, trust me, we are not taking much, compared to other people! (I actually had no clue, just thought I would tell him that to make him feel better). J The good thing is that the guy only checked 2 of our 4 suitcases!

So after that, it was time to fend off the sharks! Of course, this lady stops Michael and asked him if she could check his reservation ticket and of course he stops… I kept walking, Camille, kinda stopped, then started walking again, then stopped again. I called back to Michael, come on lets go, he told her we were taking the bus, and I think that is when he started walking away. He later said he stopped because she was cute. I know for sure that he stops because he doesn’t know any better.
J Its funny because no matter how many times I tell him to just ignore them and keep walking, he always stops! We got outside and OMG there’s more of them! Yikes, keep your head down guys and keep walking! We finally made it to the end of the terminal and we bought our ADO bus tickets. Three tickets for $24.00, can’t beat that! We took the 5:10 bus to Playa and it was actually pretty cool. This was our first time taking the ADO. We usually rent a car, but the prices were pretty high this time, so we decided to try the ADO. We loved it!

We arrived in Playa and took a taxi to the condo in Playacar. We were a little nervous because the property manager had not called us, so we weren’t sure how we were going to find her. The taxi guy didn’t really know where the condo was, but he knew the streets, so we stopped right at the corner of the condo and he got out to see if he could find the name of the condo. In the meantime, I took out the pictures that Laurie (the condo owner) had sent me along with the directions to the condo, so when he got back to the taxi, I showed him the picture and he said that we were at the right place. He dropped us off in the front and we were kinda lost, not knowing where to go, we started heading towards the stairs, when we heard… Hello? Lucy is that you? Thank God, because we didn’t know how we were going to get a hold of her. So she tried to help us with our luggage, poor thing, she’s so small… I didn’t even try to carry the luggage up 3 flights of stairs, but she wanted to help no matter what. It was kinda funny because she tried to help Camille, and it didn’t work. Arturo came down to help with the luggage and once inside, they gave us a tour of the place, they were both very accommodating. They kept asking us if we needed anything or if there was anything they could help us with. They were very sweet. After they left, it was time to unpack. Thank God it takes less time to unpack than to pack, because we would have been there all night! We finally finished separating everything we had brought down and were finally ready for dinner.

We got comfortable and walked to 5th. We went to Carboncitos to drop off our supplies for Angel Notion, got our discount card and sat down to a wonderful first dinner in Playa. We ordered drinks (Miami Vice for me, Piña Colada for Camille and Corona for Michael) and we had to of course order the fabulous salsa platter--- OMG we devoured that thing! By the time the food arrived we weren’t even hungry! Camille ordered the Pastor taco plate, Michael ordered the Tequila Shrimp and I ordered an Arrachera steak with cheese and cactus on top. Everything was delicious. We were in heaven. What a great first dinner in Playa. After dinner they brought us a little dessert…. Oh man was that good! It was like a tiny cinnamon/sugar buñuelo bowl with vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate sauce… Wow that was so yummy!! Dinner and drinks came out to 546.00 pesos. It was delicious!

After dinner we decided to walk down 5th and window shopped for a wood Aztec Calendar that we wanted to get. We walked all the way to like 16th (where 5th kinda dips down) and decided we were tired and couldn’t keep on. On the way back Michael decided he needed a Monster, so we stopped at every convenience store we passed looking for the blue low-cal Monster, but no luck! We got back to our condo and we were exhausted! It was a little after 11:00 p.m. Michael went right to sleep while Camille and I stayed up a little bit more and kicked back on the couch. What a long but great first day!

Hi Syl!
Hope you and your family are doing well. So any plans for another peep meet??..lol

The condo was great! It is called Casa de Suenos. It is owned by Laurie (Intheroo) here on this forum. Here is the vrbo link: Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo vacation rental by owner: 2 bedroom Condominium rental that sleeps 5. Large, Spacious 2BR/2BA Penthouse Condo in Ideal Location

I'll see if I can help.

First go to the web page where your photo is stored, in my case Photobucket, and copy the direct link code. (highlight and use Ctrl +C)

Example: http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...it_too/PV4.jpg

Now open the forum page and find and click the icon that looks like an envelope and says insert image. ( in some cases a bar will pop up at the top of your page click on the bar and ok it then go back and click the envelope icon again.)
A window should open and say Please enter the URL of your image.
Paste the saved code (from above) into the box. (use Ctrl + V)

Your image should appear. You can now Preview Post or Submit Reply

Here is the image from the above code.

I think you almost have it but you don't need the double http: so then you copy into the box copy over the one already there.

What you have is http://http//i648.photobucket.com/al...a/IMG_0884.jpg

If you remove the extra http
