Pre and Post Holiday Party Thread

Hi everyone

You guys can figure it out. I reckon this thread oughta do us for a couple of weeks anyway.

Sue, I am trying some of that wine you reccommendated, that Tres Pinos from Trader Joe's. This is the Tierra Roja, a red blend. It is just fine and I thank you for the recommendation.

I am glad to be home and back at work. The trip was more stressful than I realized until today - but we all have family and some of the time that is stressful

Welcome back Ron y Kathy!
It is always good to know a good inexpensive wine. Thanks for the recommendation

Wow, I am having a hard time believing Christmas is 2 weeks away. Although the weather here is shouting winter. Must be in denial as I still have shopping to do.

Before I can think about Christmas we still have to work on all the birthdays... tomorrow it's my nephew's.

For me it felt like xmas yesterday because the guys from my department in Paris gathered after our department christmas lunch on the christmas market and they gave me a big package. It contained a selection of french 'duck'-specialties (like pate de duck and other things) AND a half liter bottle of Champagne (the real stuff). Looks like it has been expensive....

We have decided to have a Boxing Day party.

Since it is a British Holiday, we're going to do a Mexican theme

Chicken Mole (smoked chicken with smoke chicken stock in the mole)

Margaritas and Mexican beer. Red wine, but I have not seen Mexican red wine up here - I have had some in Mexico that was fine as a table wine.

Need to decide on antojitos and find a good mole recipe. We've made it before, it was either a 12 or 17 ingredient recipe. If anyone has one to recommend, fell free to.

Just in case you want the world's best pina colada recipe (TG got it from a bartender in Mexico)...

Equal parts rum, pineapple juice, sweetened condensed milk, and coconut milk. Blend with ice. Pour into glass and sprinkle a bit of cinammon on top. A huge crowd pleaser.

Oh, that sounds good. Pina Coladas are the only sweet and creamy drink that I like. Don't like daquiris and bailys and coffee drinks and super sweet stuff, but something about pineapple and coconut, yum.

I make them a certain amount in the summer and no one has ever claimed to have had a better one. Give it a try sometime. They are also very low in fat, or not!

I still remember being nervious when TG went to ask the bartender for the recipe, figuring he would get mad at us. But, he was persuaded by her I guess.

Off to a local food potluck. Tomorrow is a friend's birthday at the local brewpub. Saturday is full of various Christmas events that include plenty of free booze. Sunday is football, cleaning, finalizing shopping and holiday road trip plans. Next week isn't any less busy, but I'm too brain dead to think that far in advance

Happy Thursday guys!

That sounds wonderful I hope you all have plenty of quality time together

Back from dinner and full of AMAZING food. There are very few fine dining restaurants that can compare with the gourmet local food shared tonight. People really outdid themselves
