Which Fogon/HC is better?
We'll be visiting Playa for New Years week, this time with our three teenage sons. I've noticed there are two locations for El Fagon and at least two for HC Monterrey. Which ones are the best?

My favorite El Fogon location is on 30th avenue, between Calles 32 and 34.
My favorite HC de Monterrey is on Constituyentes between Avenidas 25 and 30. These are the locations that have historically been closest to my house, maybe that's why.

If it is an issue for you the El Fogon on 30th is only open for dinner I believe vs the one by Mega being lunch and dinner. Also an issue for us that HC has virtually no-non meat choices vs a bit more variety at El Fogon. Both have great food.Actually,by Mega you can hit El Fogon then HC then the place right next door ( all 3 in a row) and they all have very good, very inexpensive food.

Last month we planned on trying that one as we'd gone to the shop by Mega a few other times and they were just firing up the kitchen.I believe they indicated that they would be open for dinner and directed us to the other location.Perhaps someone local can confirm or correct me.

As for HC, well I've only been to the one on Constituyentes, so I cannot say about the others. |

Thanks all
Thank you all for your insight. I think we'll first try the El Fogon on 6th, I like the idea that it is less touristy, thanks Anna. We've only been to the down town Monterrey but we're staying closer to the up town location. Glad to hear both are equal choices. I can imagine down town might have a little different/local atmosphere. Thanks again

My point is not that these two are the best (and Heather is wrong), but that as there is somewhat a diverse and entrenched set of opinions amongst regulars so that an impartial judge would declare there is no clear winner. A good partial judge would of course say forget what Michael said; Heather is right and that is the end of that.
