Favorite Coffee available in groceries in Playa

My condo in February will have a coffeemaker, so I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good coffee available at one of the main groceries? I usually shop at Mega, but I'm willing to stop somewhere else if you have a good rec.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks TJ. While I love Starbucks, it gets a tad spendy to do every day.

Actually, I've just gone to Starbucks and had them ground up a package of whole bean coffee for me to take back to the condo. However, I've only done that after the bag I brought with me (which was less expensive) ran out!

Do you usually just bring a bag with from home? No issues going through customs?

That would maybe be easier.

I always bring a bag and no, never a problem - you're allowed to bring coffee in.

I always bring a bag of blue mountain down with me and go for the Chiapas coffee if it runs out. Then I always bring some Chiapas coffee home with me.

I also bring coffee from home. Along with two types of filters and sugar packets. One year we were staying in a really basic room with no coffee maker. I brought a one cup coffee maker in our luggage

I buy Cafe Garat, in a dark blue package. It's better than Nescafe and not as expensive as Starbucks. It costs, oh, around 55 or 60 pesos or so.

Filters is a great tip. I'm not sure if the condo would have those!

Thanks Heather!

I will pick some of that up. It's always fun to try new kinds I can't get at home.

Yes, bringing coffee from home for personal consumption is fine.

Just a piece of advice: If you do bring coffee in from home, please make sure it's in your carry on and not your checked luggage. Certain items are flagged at security like coffee (used to mask the smell of drugs), and cat litter (used as a binding agent in making homemade bombs). If you have these items in your luggage, there is a good chance they will hold your luggage back, and do a full videotaped search. It's actually pretty serious.

And if they instigate a search, usually they just pull all your bags off the flight and re-book you. It's not fun.

Since I'm a coffee snob, I get Starbucks in Playa and have them grind it for me but it only comes in 1/2 lb bags and I use about 2 1/2-3 lbs a week, so I go to Mega and get the Blason coffee in between getting to Starbucks. The Blason is really good (and much cheaper). Sometimes I just bring a lb or 2 of Starbucks in my luggage.
