I'm back! It was a cold and windy day, but thankfully the wind was coming from the south and the run was on the north shore. It was nice and sunny, too. So pretty much perfect running weather
I wasn't really sure what the course was going to look like, but it turned out to be fairly flat, save one huge hill just after the second mile. I started off with a pretty slow pace and ended up at the back of the running pack. But pretty soon I started passing people and moved my way up the ranks. There were a few little rolling hills, but nothing like what I'm used to on the trail, so it was pretty easy going until the monster after mile 2 I chugged up the bohemouth (thinking: holy hell, is this hill EVER GOING TO END???) and suddenly felt a serious cramping in my gut. Oh, crap There's absolutely nowhere around here to, well, crap Thankfully that subsided and I managed to make my way through the rest of the race unscathed, socks and gloves intact I opened it up on the final downhill and straightaway to the finish line and came in at 34:49 Good enough for me! Jeremy decided to run with me this morning and he came in at 33:34![]() ![]() WTG, babe! He told me he packed his faux pod full of metal to keep him motivated (he's still doing walk/run intervals). The bar that was sponsering the race put out a great spread with sandwiches, veggies and chips so we munched on some food and enjoyed a beer before heading home All in all a great morning![]() I'm really glad to get that first 5K under my belt. I was actually really nervous this morning, not really knowing what to expect. I probably could have pushed myself harder, but I was worried about running out of steam and having to walk to the finish. There were only a little over 100 people regestered for this race, so it was a nice, small group. I think the next race out here is Memorial Day weekend- bring it on!!

Do you think your nervousness caused the tummy issues? That would be my biggest fear.

It does feel good to get that out of the way! I'm happy with my time because I've been so steady at 12 min miles lately- even when I've been pushing hard. So to come in sub 12 felt good

JG: That makes sense. I'll continue to progress with lifting, pretty much on the same schedule of increments as I've been doing since January. With the added miles and with focus on fish, chicken and smaller portions of red meat (I think one day a week will be my treat).....I "should" be where I want to be by end of May. Also need to really work on side to side leg movements, such as doing drills on the BB court. ugh Crossing fingers I can go back to maintenance running by June. I hope so. I need to lose the late night bowl of cereal.

I have been lifting for 6 weeks again now - and since the office moved downtown in mid-January, I have been walking more. Got more muscle, got less gut. My eyes and sense of touch confirm the first, going to the next hole in the belt tells me the second. |

Congrats again Sara (isn't that feeling of accomplishment the best?!) and thank you. Reading your race report got me thinking and so I went back and read my first race report. Then I went back through those goals I made back in January. I am now inspired enough to get off my butt and out into the sunshine this afternoon.
I'm going to map out a 4 mile course and head out for a run.

![]() Good job Sara. Looks like I better find a race soon or I'll be the only one without a race report. I'm thinking I'm going to stop doing my tempo runs for the next month. I need to get lots of miles in. Around 20 a week running. If I can get that plus 2-3 times a week on the bike.(25-50 miles weekly) I'll feel like I'm getting some good weeks in. Ran 5 today in 50 minutes. Nice ez pace. Cold front moving in so a couple of the miles were pretty windy. It's suppose to be in the 70s Wednesday so I hope to get the road bike out. The mountain bike has been a good decision because I'm getting out on that on days I wouldn't have got the road bike out.
