And great to hear you're riding a lot too! Glad you're enjoying your purchase! Quote:
Just completed the 5th percent of my yearly cycling mileage goal this morning. On the road most of this week, so I hope to get two runs in and a lifting/plyo day in while hopping hotels. I'm doing well sticking to my workouts on the road! I have to, though, to keep up with my eating ![]() ![]() Leadville update: I'm giving it a rest for a couple days and I'm basically going to plan the entire trip out and just show it to her and how cheap I can do it. I also learned that one of my old college teammates (wasn't really close with him, but we know each other) also won an entry through the same deal, so we might be carpooling. CHA CHING!!! |

MTB question for PG.
Ok I'v got a MTB question. On the road bike I'm good at keeping my cadence right in the 90+ range. Is that where I should be for the MTB too? Or should I be lower for more power. Right now I'm keeping it high. Then when I hit a sand patch or have to brake for a sharp turn I can jump right back up to speed without shifting. If I was in a higher gear it seems I would really bog down and have to downshift.
12+ MTB ride today. Weather still cold. |

Just reading about your weekly plan is making me tired. Which makes it a great plan I think I need to kick things up a notch.........Quote:

Great job working out on the road- that's hard to do. I think having a plan RTG for Bean will help your case. Especially if you show her it can be done on the cheap. Good luck! |

I suppose if you've got the power and are comfortable using it, go for it. But for me, I just like to spin my way through...I was told though, that if you're racing, just pick a gear and stick to it if it works for you, and try to avoid shifting. Find one that will get you up most hills, yet one that you won't spin out with on flat sections. All of our local trails have been closed by our mountain bike club for the first time ever. They were able to work out deals with all the land managers for all the metro area trails to gate-up all entrances to the trails to let them dry out properly this spring to avoid being tore up and require tons of work. And our longest single track trail is currently under water on the river bank, so we won't see that trail until at least the first week of May, if we're lucky. At least the street sweepers finally made their appearance this week though! |

Spring is springing around here... and not in a good way. My allergy enemy (trees) is starting to wage war against me and it. is. winning. I retreated to the treadmill last night and got in 3 miles in 33:30 (incline set at 1% the whole time). By the time I left the gym I thought my head might explode.
This morning I'm fighting back w/ my full arsenal of allergy meds. Fingers crossed! All of this biking talk makes me want to go dig my old mountain bike out of the shed in my parents back yard. Probably needs some tires and grease... but hey, Dad needs a project anyways, right? It just sounds like a good change of pace for when my shins/calves aren't 100%.E! Heckuva pace yesterday! Very nice. |

hey e, you motivated me to run a little faster with your mile times. so here i was in a blizzard blowing sideways with a serious side ache and feeling like puking. i ran 3 miles in 24:00 with my mile splits at 8:05, 8:25, and 7:30. i haven't really challenged myself yet to maintain a good pace. i've been happy with 9 and 10 minute miles. time to step it up. thanks for the motivation ![]()

Low 60's and sunny here today. As soon as I have my cup of coffee I'm hitting the trail for a 6 mile run. Last edited by DavidB; 03-30-2010 at 12:19 PM.. |
