Great start to the week. 60deg. yesterday. I ran 6.1 miles in 58 minutes. Ez to medium pace. This is great because one of my goals this year was to run a 10K in my age. (52) So only a minute a mile away from it.
Sunny and 70s today. Took the MTB out. A new course. 2 miles of rail trails than 6 miles of roads along the beach. One lane roads, with a few spots of trails between the beaches. A great ride. Even took a little detour down a ditch path that got my bike muddy. . I didn't even crash in the mud.
So 11 miles ran and 30 on the bike so far.

I started running last week, as I figured it was time to lose some weight. I haven't run long distances in years, so I am starting out slow, but my first few days were successfull running 3.3km non-stop. We won't talk about time for now, but thought I would join in the thread, in hopes of running a 10km race later in the summer.

I found the elevation profile for last year's route:

There really isn't any way I can duplicate the 5-mile-all-uphill-for-3,000-feet climb here at home.

But, from what I've read, that's not the killer, just the main event. It's the little straight up climbs that you find hidden all along that profile that get people.

I'm so excited!!

Wow! What an exciting race it will be!

I'm sitting here at work fuming, having a royally shitty day... cannot wait for the end of the day to roll around. I have my route mapped out, I have my clothing picked out (had to rethink my attire due to this 75 degree day ), and I want to RUN. Omg do I ever want to run.

Today, I am finally willing to say I AM A RUNNER! Well, more like a jogger, but you get the picture

Gone is the fat smoker who gets winded walking up a flight of stairs! Gone is the chubby girl who can't run 100 ft without feeling like puking!

Today, I ran for 50 straight mins- that's right 50! That totaled up to over 4 miles! AND- I enjoyed it The rain was FINALLY gone, there are flowers blooming, grass is growing- it was a really fun run I never thought I'd say those two words together: fun run

Anyways- thanks to all you guys for getting (and keeping) me motivated to do this- running is a whole new wonderful world of exercise!

OK, I'll end my post-run endorphin-filled love fest now. I just wanted to share.

Wooooohooo!!! So glad to hear you enjoyed your run and had a great one at that!!!!

I rounded out the day with biceps/triceps/abs and 75 flights of stairs. Was aiming for 150 but hopped off and stretched and called it a day. Legs are tomorrow and I want to feel good enough to do squats and get the last of my running miles in. Totally drenched and felt like I had the same high that Sara is enjoying!

I love these type of posts!!

Way to go Sara! You're over the hump!

My run this afternoon was so-so. It wasn't bad, and it was so great to run outdoors in just shorts and actually get a little tan line!! Ended up doing 5.8 (thank you mapmyrun.com! ) on the river trail here in Dayton, OH running out of downtown and back. It's a really cool trail that literally is right against the river...almost like a curb in some spots where if you stepped off you're in the water!

But I had no rhythm for the first mile and a half or so. Finally caught it then just went through with it. Aimed for a park as a turn around point that was marked as 3.2 miles away on a trail sign but ended up turning back earlier. Eh, still got a run in and feel really good now I guess.

Next time I'm in town I'm planning on running the other direction which leads me to the University in town.

Went to an Irish pub for supper and had my tall wheat beer (changed my mind when I saw the taps lined up at the bar ) and roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy. If it weren't for these damn reports tonight, I'd curl up right now and pass out...

Ran 5 this morning....ho hum.....10 more miles to finish by tomorrow night for a total of 43.2 miles.....I think I'll take Friday off from running and make up the miles on Sunday....we will see. It depends on how I feel on Friday morning.
I can only dream of this one day! And all the other workouts on top of this!! You kick ass girl And thanks, as always, for the encouragement

Thanks, Sara. I take advantage of the weeks I don't feel like I have one foot in the grave. Plus, I keep thinking of Arthur Lydiard who was running 100 miles per week at an age more advanced than mine. Just tack on a little bit more each day and you find you will be running more miles than think possible. You are already doing this, ya know!!

Sara - So proud of you! I know exactly how you feel as I was a fat smoker once too!! I'm so glad you found running and the support you need to build on your successes! Now, get training because you need to do a triathlon now!
