Have any of you done a comparison of results when doing low intensity vs. high intensity training? I don't think I'm going to change my workout plan right now, but wondered if you yielded a quicker result nixing the long run and substituted for supersetting/mixed speed cardio instead. I think this might be more geared toward body building competition and overall leaning down rather than racing....but was just curious.

In my reading since I've taken up cycling a bit more seriously, there are a lot of higher level cyclists (amateur and pro) that mix in a few weeks of Tabatas. Basically, they're very short bursts of 110% intervals that, in theory, produce the same results as longer cardio workouts. There's a ton out there about these in particular, and they've really caught on lately, from what I hear. What I do know, is that the few Tabatas workouts I've tried, I nearly threw up each time, and hurt for a couple days afterwards. So that means they're good, right??

I guess if you don't want to plunk out a large amount of mileage then this would be an awesome alternative. I'm thinking this high intensity burst cardio training pretty much runs along the same line as Volitional Fatigue when lifting.....which is pretty much to the point where you've maxed out your muscle during that set and feel like you can't move even if there was a hot poker ready to strike you. I'm going to read your link now and see what Tabatas is about.
