Second -- you can always do a rescue of a hypoallergenic dog. On Petfinder, you can do searches for dogs by breeds and there are tons & tons of dogs that need homes...just find a hypoallergenic dogs that interests you and search away. For example, Bichon Frise (or any mix of them), Poodles (or any mix..like labradoodles if you want a larger dog), etc, etc.

Here's a list of hypo dog breeds. Do yourself a favor (save money & a life) and adopt a rescue!

Dogs Good For Allergy Suffers, Hypo-allergenic dogs
Too funny! I actually found this cutie last night!!

Bubba Joe

I've been denied by a rescue organization before because I live in a townhouse w/o a fenced yard and because hubby and I work full time. Dog nazis made me feel like a pile of dog poop. I e-mailed this rescue org and just a half hour ago they responded and said he'd be perfectly fine in a townhouse and he'd love to join me on my runs. Filling out the app tonight! (might have to drop the Joe part of his name... not sure I want a dog called B.J. )

Cutie!!! Super cute!!! I like Bubba as a name! Great dog name!

Some rescue orgs are doing themselves & dogs a huge disservice by denying someone like you. Honestly, so few people have fenced in yards so what the F do they have against leash walking your dog? UGH. So frustrating. Please remember, there are a lot of lunatics involved in doggie rescue. You just have to weed through the idiots to find your doggie mate!
Keep me posted!!

US Airways has officially lost my luggage. Because they gate checked it, they have no record/scan of it even leaving Boston. The baggage loss rep in Louisville can't get anyone to answer the phone in their Boston office, but Charlotte has no records of my bag arriving either. They're even questioning whether I had a carry-on-to-be-checked in the first place. I have the carbon copy of the bag tag they put on it with checking number, but that's all I have. Filing the official lost baggage reimbursement request today.

The good news is that I get to sport a brand new pair of running shoes for my tri next weekend though

Yeah...I'll probably be lucky to get a couple hundred bucks for it. We'll see.

Very nice mileage! Wow! Aiming for 500 miles by the new year??

My highest mileage year was just shy of 300 for my first marathon a few years ago.

Awww- what a cutie! I really, really, really hope you can adopt a dog- dogs are the best things in the entire world Def. drop the Joe, though

It was a great 5 miles today It was about 68 and sunny- low humidity. And the town bushhogged a 2 foot path on either side of the road, so it's a lot safer than it used to be. I actually chose to run off the road on some parts to make it easier on my knees. Its been several weeks since I've done a long run, so this felt awesome So far I've run 13 miles this week and I might run on Sunday (I'll def. take tomorrow off- my legs are WOBBLY). This is the first week I've been happy with, workout-wise for awhile Now it's time to shower, hydrate, then pack up the cooler and grill to grill burgers on the beach for sunset. With beer of course

First off, awesome mileage everyone is wracking up this week! I'm lame-o and will go out now to run another 3 mile trail run which will bring my total to 6. Whooopie! (But I did swim & bike & kickbox so am I excused)

Oh, and I am insanely envious of the bolded section!

Edit: Just did about 2.5 miles in the woods. It was awesome. Same trail I always run but didn't run to the top of Box Mtn. Ran the trail that cuts across the bottom of the steep incline. Off to shower, cook steaks and (unfortunately) hit the mall to shop for work clothes (yuck - I detest shopping - I lack the female gene that enjoys shopping).

No reason to be jealous- Jeremy got home late so we don't have time to pull it all together in time Some other day.....

I share your anti-shopping gene. They skipped me with that one- I HATE to shop Nice run, btw!

5k #3. Done. I can't remember if my goal was 3 5k's in 2010 or not. No matter... this one doesn't count anyways!

Today's 5k was a fundraiser for the volunteer fire department in our town. The fire truck was blocking the road to at the start/finish line, moved out of the way, turned on his siren and we were off! Kind of unique.

Ok, so. I never, ever run on this side of town. It's actually where that spider trail is that I haven't tried yet. Anyhow, this part of town is right on the Rum River... hence the name of the race I suppose... Race the Rum. So... there are hills on that side of town. Fairly big steep hills as you go down towards the river and then back up into the neighborhoods. My side of town... corn fields. You see how this is shaping up right?

Race starts and we go down a big hill, not just a big hill, THE big hill, pretty good grade and long. I tell myself, "make sure you save enough to get back up this thing."

Then we head into the big city park, beautiful. Right on the river, a couple paved trails, lots of hills that I've gone sledding on numerous times...

So it went like this:
Down the big hill.
Round the corner into the park.
Up my favorite sledding hill at approx 0.75 miles.
Round the corner into the neighborhood.
Hit mile 1 at 9:30.
Lots of small ups and downs.
Back down towards the river.
Back up into the neighborhood.
Make the loop to turn around.
Hit mile 2 at 21:35. Crap. It took me too long to recover from the sledding hill.
Loop back into the park.
Down the favorite sledding hill.
Through the park. Long low grade hill coming out of the park gives me the huff and puffs. Not good.
Now with the huff and puffs I turn the corner and I can see the foot of THE big hill.
"Ok, slow down, catch your breath... you are NOT walking up that hill."
UP THE HILL!!! I CAN DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IT!
Thought the top of the hill was the finish line, it wasn't. CRAP!
The finish line was moved back about 100 feet from where the start line had been. That was just mean.
Old high school gym teacher is at the finish line reading off the times.
I cross the finish line at 33:05.
Gym teacher has a pause in runners finishing and says to me "Hey! Great job! I remember you hated running back in the day."

So in the end, this race doesn't count. I didn't meet my goal and I didn't beat my last race. I do, however, have a new 3 mile course to run... and believe me... I will run it. Clearly I need to do some hill work.

Awesome!! So, I take it this was a cross country type race (grass - not all pavement?) If so, I tend to run a little slower on cross country -- it's the grass - I swear! It creates drag on my feet!

My first CC race I did had a similar ending to yours - meaning I thought the top of the hill was the finish line so I pushed really hard to get there only to find out I still had HALF a mile left! Luckily, it was a series race and that was race 1 of 5. The next time I knew better!

Now, you're up to 3 5Ks -- I know this one didn't count toward your 3 total for 2010 -- but do you think you'll keep going and search out more races?

Nice work! And of course it counts if you finish! The year is only half over and you've already ran three races!

Cool that your gym teacher remembered you and commented too!

My hometown tri next weekend has a lot of my HS teachers as volunteers...including my old football head coach. In HS, during the games, at the beginning of each offensive series I'd be standing next to him waiting for him to give me the first play to bring into the huddle. As he thought, he always used to grab my waist band of my pants on the back and tug on them a little...kind of like a nervous twitch as he thought.

Well, he happened to be the volunteer in the body marking area last year. So there I was, talking with him, in just my spandex tri shorts while he took the big permanent marker and wrote my race number on my arms and legs. Sure enough, when he was done we had a quick small talk chat, and because it was a bit crowded in the shelter house of the park, we were in close quarters to each other. So what do you suppose he does? One hand on my shoulder as we talk, and the other hand right on my lower back while he holds my waist band.

He's in his late 60's, and has been in the early stages of Alzheimer's for a few years now, but it was definitely the most awkward point of the day.

My luggage was delivered to my front door this morning too, and everything was in it! Somehow, it was sent to an Air Force Base in NC instead of Charlotte

But they found it.

Great work kallileigh1 (we need an abbreviation for you though).

Pretty decent weather for a race at this time of the year. Could have easily been 20 degrees warmer. Amazing what hills will do to your pace though, huh???

PG, were you the QB for your HS team?

Yep.

This was back when I only ran when the coach told us to or when linebackers were chasing me on a naked bootleg right...

And yes, that's a few inches of snow we're playing in on homecoming...not a drowned out photo
