Awesome work Becca! Amazing improvement given your sore back as well. Of course not having to stop due to pee issues must help!

My only comment is that given the times you have listed, it would still seem like there is a lot more opportunity to improve in bike/running vs. swimming, merely because your swim time is so short already. But I suppose if you want to get into longer tri's that swimming will help.

And yes...That is the way you roll!

Thanks! You know what is funny is that my back didn't hurt at all during the race. I took 2 Advil before I left work but I think the excitement helped me forget about it. Then, last night, I started complaining about my back again.

I agree about the improvement on bike/running. I think I just need to keep chipping away at all the times but my biggest opportunity to make up large amounts of time are in bike/run. Will work on my training this week.

**Official results posted and I placed 9th out of 21 women in my age group. I'm happy!

Woo Hoo! Nice work! Look at those time splits dropping like rocks!

Man, at this rate, you'll break an hour by mid-July!!!

Glad to hear your T1 went better too! I forgot to write about my T1...I actually forgot to dry my feet after coming in and realized it after I put my first sock on. But, it went on just fine, so I just did the same for the other and didn't know any different; they felt great! But, we had mats and grass to run on instead of running through dirt/rocks.

Oh, and feel free to use "my" stroke anytime you like

Wow, just wow.

As for me, I'm thinking of either doing a 5K or 10K Saturday AM. If I don't race this Saturday, I probably won't race for nearly another month. It will probably be an AM decision, because we are going out to a rowdy bar for a country concert on Saturday night. The 10K is at 8AM and the 5K is at 9AM, so there is definitely a difference.

I know there is a risk that waiting until the last minute will cause me to do nothing, that is why I am posting my intent here.

Welcome to my club! Although it is my gut that is growing instead of my ass! I have put on 10 pounds since March. Trying to get 5 off before the 4th of July!

Not lame at all man. Swimming is tough, but sooooo good for you. 'Specially those knees It's definitely a complete body workout though, isn't it?!

I'm on my third day of doing nothing but filling my pie hole... Just a non-moving bottomless pit since Sunday

Meant to run yesterday...didn't happen.

Planning on running tonight after work though. Might be a long one...got some work anger to burn off

That was too easy of an edit! It didn't even need editing!

Which race are you eyeing?

But more importantly...which rowdy bar are you planning on causing trouble at?

Definitely! Gym pool water is pretty nasty...even if they "clean" it often.

Swimmers sweat just as much as runners...think about it

Either the Run for the Roses 10K in Roseville or the Heartbeat 5000 5K in Minneapolis. There are a lot of races going on this weekend.

Going to the Cabooze on Friday night. New rowdy country singer Josh Thompson will be performing there. My racing Saturday AM probably depends on who decides to drive Friday night, TG or I.

I don't want to rub it in or anything, but I'm pretty sure I was still in calorie deficit through Monday night. My body was burning anything it could find for at least 36 hours after I finished the race. I should have weighed myself, because I'm sure I lost a few net pounds by Monday night, even after rehydrating.

Pretty sure I caught up yesterday, though, and that the metabolism finally recovered to pre-race status.

I can see why the guys that do multiple races each season are built the way they are. They honestly look unhealthy when standing there in just their shorts

I didn't catch the edit at first...

I think there are at least two races to choose from in the state every weekend through August, if my friend was right this weekend.

It's to the point where it's hard to find excuses not to race some weekends

I really like the Cabooze for concerts. And that singer sounds like he'll fit perfectly there. Very fun atmosphere...except when you have to walk outside around the dark corner to your car after dark.

Speaking of eating too much - before the swim, some of the women in my wave & i were discussing why we do this every week. I said so I could eat like a pig @ least one day a week and not feel guilty! Most of them agreed!

Meant to tell you about the crazy old guy during our swim! Long story short, he must have been in wave 2, we were wave 3, caught this guy, who proceeded to swim perpendicular to us (so first cuts me off off and then turns 180 degrees to cut off the girl behind me), I hear the girl behind me yell, "Hell, let go of me!" and then finally the lifeguard paddles over to ask if he needs help. I think he was starting to panic and was just swimming on his back any way he could. It was very strange and kind of stressful b/c I got panicky for about a second thinking what if this guy drowns! Being the concerned triathlete that I am, I put my head down and began to freestyle as quickly as I could to get away from the scene. (I'm sure he was fine, he accepted help from the lifeguard).

Here are my times:

swim 12:31:98 (last week was over 13 - and this includes the run from the water to T1)
T1 1:52:13 (last week was 2:18 and change)
bike 31:08:30 (last week 32:12:45 -- they said last week's course was slightly short so they updated it to be the full 4.96 and I STILL beat my time)
T2 1:09:07 (last week 54:58)
run 30:56:79 (last week 33:40:96)
total time 1:17 (last week 1:22)

BAM! THAT'S HOW I ROLL!!! I took 5 minutes off my time (unofficial times posted above) which blew away my expectations.

Here's what I did differently:
Swim - Used PG's stroke more than I did last week (I can just imagine what the perv will say about that one ). AMAZING how much faster freestyle is than any other stroke -- I mean light years faster. I just have to build up the cardio to maintain it.

T1 - used my little tupperware thing to wash my feet and didn't have to do anything other than take the wetsuit off since I swam/rode/ran in my tri shorts & just threw a top on over my bathing suit top

Bike - pushed slower out of the gate so I didn't blow my legs up and kept building my pace faster & faster as the miles clicked away

T2 - I was slower so obviously I did something wrong and have no idea what it was.

Run - nice slow pace out of transition, NO walking, and NO pee problems Last week, I had such pain in my gut from having to pee that I kept stopping to bend over and make the pain go away. Plus took advantage of the downhills to blast down and almost relax my body while doing it to give my legs a break.

Once again, I MUST THANK PG & JG - I always think of them when I compete and their feedback (and everyone else's) and the threat of coming back from a race and not sharing positive results keeps me pushing harder and harder!!!

For next week, I think I'll keep trying harder on my swim -- keep trying to increase the amount of freestyle I do (I got kicked a lot this swim). Bike - I'm going to be more aggressive with passing the chicks who are scared to ride trails (there are quite a few so I need to take advantage of their weakness ). The run, I think I'll just keep ticking away at it. Will spend more time this week training with speed/intervals.

Peace out!

Bring on the races!!

P.S. I passed a lot of dudes on the bike and the run. tee hee
YEAH, BABY!!!!!

Nicely done

I definitely need to get back on track. I've barely worked out at all this week Today and tomorrow are no different- I can get back into it Friday. Hopefully my body will be so happy for the break that I can come back strong then Slowly working on the food and beer.......it's soooooo hard this time of year
