Water: I love water! I got the habit of drinking a lot of it back in college when I carried the Nalgene around hooked on my backpack all day. Kept it going when I got a real job. When I'm at home, I almost always carry a glass of water around with me. Typically drink around 2 liters a day. I really don't have to pee more than normal usually, until I take a full day off of working out or something. Then the following day I'm going every hour it seems. So no, I'm not lame like you

I once ran a 5K in the pouring rain and had to pee really badly. I tried to simply go in my shorts as I was running (I run commando so it would have been a bit easier than if I had tight underwear on), figuing that no one would notice, and that I would be showering and washing my clothes after the race.
But it didn't work so I stopped and hit a port a potty. I suppose the above falls under the category of TMI???

Well, I beat my MTB time!
I can take a little comfort in knowing the following: 1) I can survive over an hour of strenuous activity in 100 degree heat 2) I can still beat my MTB time from the week previous in said heat Yup, I did it. With PG & JG pushing my not that big anymore butt around the course, I finished my triathlon tonight. In case you haven't heard, we're having a heat wave here - 100 degrees with heat index around 103. I almost bailed on the tri tonight but my Jedi Masters would have none of it. I did NOT beat my times from the last two weeks but I did match my time in week #1. So, I'm pretty happy with that. Swim - sucked. No wetsuit - noticed the difference right away. I was about a minute 30 off my time from last week. T1 - sucked. about 20 seconds longer than last week. Was struggling to get socks on when I finally said F IT! and rode w/o socks. Bike - KILLED IT! PG, you would have been SOOOOO proud. At one point, I backed it in into a corner like Valentino Rossi on a hot lap at Mogello. For you non-Moto GP motorcycle race fans, that would mean my rear tire stepped out and I was sliding into the turn with my rear wheel locked and nicely crossed up. It was a very controlled slide and I felt awesome. I had PG in my head cheering me on. My time was 9 seconds better than last week -- remember temps were about 15 degrees hotter. T2 - sucked. My 9 seconds I took off my bike were quickly eliminated as I tacked on about 26 seconds on my transition. Decided to run with no socks in my sneakers. Worked out fine. Run - sucked. I was spent. My mind said "YOU MUST SAID THE CRUST". Body said "I CAN'T SAID THE ANT" (shout out to my one of my favorite childhood books). Finished 1:22 -- 7 minutes longer than last week, 5 minutes longer than the week before, but tied my first race. LIFE IS STILL GOOD! ![]() On a cool note, I did get to ride behind the front runners -- they were running, I was riding (they finished around 50 minutes). 2 guys, 0% body fat (actually, they looked like PG!), and they were KICKING ASS. I didn't pass them because I didn't want to screw up their race as I caught them right at the end of my ride. They were neck and neck and one guy just put the hammer down and dropped the other runner. I yelled....."NICE JOB RUNNER! FINISH STRONG!" and I noticed he kicked a little bit harder. Was very cool! THANKS AGAIN TO PG & JG -- if you didn't hold me accountable, I wouldn't have done it!

Becca - I am amazed at your resolve. I am really happy to see that you posted, otherwise I would have feared that you were dead and I would have felt guilty. And to still post good times is that heat is just insane.
That locked-wheel bike move sounds crazy. I think I am going to take out a life insurance policy on your hubby and you. Interesting that you went sockless, as Runners World had a big section on tri's this month and a lot of the elite go sockless. So, you are fitting in well with the elite. ![]() Now that you have competed iin 100 degree weather, I think the only thing left is for you to compete in subzero weather, e.g. the Minnesota Frozen 1/2 marathon. Remember, if you can find a cheap flight here, room and board are on TG and I and nipple shots are on PG. Excellent work Princess (Leah)! JG |

Today I lifted legs and did core work. I was doing seated calf raises without stretching out my achilles too far. A guy saw how much weight I had on, and said "that is a lot of weight, can you really hold that at the top?" I was a bit dumbfounded as I usually just got to the top and then came back down, slowly the whole time, but certainly not pausing at the top. So, I then started pausing for a 2 count at the top. Wow, what a workout! I love that guy. I thanked him for the idea and he was like "I wasn't trying to rip on your previous form" and I said "No problems bud, as you just taught me how to work a muscle I was having big problems working". Jimmie Johnson is nervous. |

Now that I rode & ran sockless, I do consider myself an elite athlete. ![]() Minnesota, winter, 1/2 marathon - let me sleep on that one! However, the room & board PLUS nipple shots does make it a bit enticing!

-First of all, I can tell you that I'm not at 0% body fat ![]() -Great work on showing up and still posting a quality time, and getting a good workout done on the day. -interesting on the wetsuit data. I'm pretty much convinced that I will be getting one sooner rather than later. -Glad to hear the no socks worked. I'm too skittish to try it yet...but at the same time I'm totally comfortable with trying to run barefoot ![]() -to answer your post from yesterday: yes I'm going to pick up that book ASAP. Might put it on my book exchange list though for the family Christmas gift exchange though. Can't decide yet. -Nice work on sliding out the rear! It's funny, because this is actually a very hot topic in the MTB forums here in Minnesota. It's highly frowned upon to lock up the wheels on our trails here. People get yelled at for it if seen. When it comes to racing, it's a bit unspoken, but most people don't really do it either. Obviously there are hard braking moments when it needs to be done, but not on the intentional turns. People from out of state are constantly bickering about how conservative the trail bosses are with these guidelines. We're really strict about getting muddy too. "If you leave a tire print, the trails are closed," is the motto after the rain. (I like your moto analogy too...even though I really didn't get it ). -Glad we motivated you to go out and kick some butt despite the heat wave. Quote:

Just my two pesos ![]() Glad to hear you're joining the happy endorphin thread though!! Please note that beer is still welcome...and encouraged! Quote:
![]() I've do this with pushups when I throw them into a routine. 3-sec push-ups. Pause at the top and the bottom for a wicked core workout. I've never heard of it for calf raises though. Might have to try it... Quote:

So, it that 3 seconds of pausing at both the top and bottom I'm guessing, or is it 3 seconds total for the entire pushup? That does sound like a great workout. I like the idea as I try to figure out ways to work my core that aren't as hard on my back.

PG - You're right! I should have been a better trail ambassador but...it was cool!
In normal riding conditions I wouldn't have done that -- actually in the race i normally wouldn't have done that but the turn came up on me so quick and I was going way faster than I normally am.
