Hi. My name is Kalli and I am a sissy. Tried to run 3 miles this afternoon/evening, right at dusk. Running wasn't the problem. I was too damn COLD!! I wore the same clothes I wore to run last winter and it was like 20 degrees out there. I sissied out after 1.5 miles.
I had to go home, put on a hat, scarf, thick gloves, AND my winter coat. Then I went out and did the other 1.5. Yep I was over heating when I was done but I didn't care! Ugh. This is gonna be a loooooooooooong winter. Must be time to move!

Things have been going okay for me
Things have been crazy busy at work the past few weeks, working 12 hr days everyday, so my workouts are few and far between. I have been eating a lot better, and have noticed some more weight loss, but nothing to brag about. After the first of the year things should calm down a bit at work, and I am going to get in the full swing of things again. |

OK, so my back finally seems to be good enough to run. Got out for 9k on Friday and followed that up with 20k on Saturday. All negated by the gigantic meal at the company Christmas party Saturday night, followed by more snacks at a friend's house party later that same night, plus possibly several drinks of the wobbly variety, but what the hell, eh?
10k scheduled over the noon hour today. |

Edit: Hmmm, I guess that is the average running speed. Not sure If I could get my legs moving that fast. I am really more of a mountain hiker. My average speed is 2.5 - 3.0 mph but that is climbing 1000 feet per hour of elevation. Last edited by beer_dude; 12-20-2010 at 10:06 AM.. |

Not really. I usually train at around a 5:20 to 5:30/km pace, so 10 km in 55 min or so. I'm hoping to break 45 minutes racing it this year, that would be pretty much a mid-pack result for me. The best guys my age locally are running it in the low 30s. World record for a road 10k is something like 26:45.
I'm putting off this run until tomorrow anyways, just climbing the stairs around work here is telling my my legs need another day. Doing 20k on Saturday doubled my December mileage - just not a great month running-wise due to the injury. |

What a great thread, I should have paid attention sooner. Too many posts to multiquote so I'll summarize....
Ron - glad you're not gassy, I'm sure Kathy is too. And wanting to look at your own muscles is no different than stepping back from a finished research project and looking at it with satisfaction. Kalli - you definitely did not wimp out if you got cold added layers and went back out. The going back out again is the champ in you! I'm leaving a great number of people out. I went to class tonight inspired by this thread. I had countless number of reasons to stay at the office this evening but I needed the focus and balance of a work out. So I took the Tabata class. Hell followed by Nirvarna. Argh, who posted back problems with running? We must talk barefoot. I've nearly doubled my miles and feel better than I have in ages. I even wear my 5 fingers to fitness classes. |

Might have been me, but my back problems were caused by judo, not running. I've never had back issues running. My sister wears the VFFs and swears by them. I've got some racing flats that I've worn for up to HM distance but they started to give me some hip twinges that went away when I switched back to my regular training shoes. So I only use them for 10k and shorter now.
