I'm old and have been warned that if I don't let an injury heal completely I'll be dealing with it for the rest of my earthly life. Argggh. Time to learn patience. So there will be a 2011 thread to start fresh? Yeah, I'm patient

14k on Boxing Day, 9 of it with my sister. Another 14 k today solo, and planning some hill repeats tomorrow morning with my sister. Resolution Run 5k coming up on Saturday, no idea if I'll race it or trot it. I suspect it will have something to do with how the New Year's Eve activities go...
One week from tonight we will be kicking back in Playa for our first night, and contemplating maybe a morning run if the night is not too late. Woo-hoo! |

Sorry, I wrote unclearly - our first night of 7 in Playa is a week from tonight. We'll be at the Royal all week, barring the odd excursion (unplanned as of yet). Looks like the weather is going to be so-so, highs in the low-mid 20s (70s) but it's got to be better than January in Saskatoon.
And I'm positive that you'll get to 14k and beyond. Lord knows I don't have any special talent, just stubbornness. Here's the secret: left, right, repeat as necessary. |

Ugh... No kidding on the motivation part. I've ran just three times in the last two weeks...
![]() I did get a good motivator for Christmas though: the HR monitor/GPS watch I've been eyeing! (Bean rules!). The only bummer part is that it didn't come with the HR Chest strap, so I need to track one down (trying not to order one...don't want to pay shipping, but nobody carries just the strap anywhere that I've found yet...). I've also decided on my New Year's Resolution: No hitting the snooze button. ![]() ![]()

After over a month of no regular running due to a work injury (America has become the land of the GIANT now) I am a bit reticent to hit the road just because I know I will be sucking wind.
BUT! I can't wait to hit that 5+ mile plateau where I am just cruising and feel GREAT! Won't take me very long. Una pregunta, where do you folks buy your shoes? I love to go to my local shop and support a family that lives and spends money in my community but there are also some smokin' deals online for last year's models. I particularly like the Mizunu Wave 12. |

Glad to hear you're ready to get back out there! That 5+ mile wall is a tough one to get to, but so worth it once you're there. I really need to get back there again...and soon! I typically buy my shoes from the local running store. They match everyone's price, and everyone that works there are actually runners and have a little merchandise training on the individual shoes, as opposed to the bigger department sport stores. They also sponsor local races, and they're less than two miles from my house ![]() I haven't tried Mizunos. My favorites are Asics Gel Nimbus. Currently running on Gel Nimbus 12's from two years ago...I'm due! |

To the runners bemoaning lack of motivation: imho most of you can blame it on the weather combined with lack of daylight. Really, you put up with a lot of challenges. If I lived in the northeast and for sure MN I wouldn't leave the house but to earn a living and get food.
It takes everything I've got to deal with a paltry Delaware winter. Those of you dealing with real winter have my admiration! |
