I know, right? But by a week in, it'll be so easy to continue
I promise It really helps that you have someone awesome like Erica to motivate you - I know that working out with my husband is a huge motivator (even though I'm usually the one doing the motivating ) But you don't want to let the other person down. So git yer butt to the gym, Mikey![]() That's an order!![]() edit- saw your edit- good work man! It'll only get better

After almost falling on tiny sheet of ice on my walk yesterday, I decided to hit the gym today. I am so out of shape but committed to this being my year to get healthy. I made it 35 minutes on the elliptical doing speed up intervals every few minutes. Good cardio; I was sweating. On weights, I am really worried about my elbow (and it is my upper which needs the most work, my lower half responds to cardio quick, but my top half needs toning big time). I can do a regular chest press, but when I do triceps or biceps my left elbow feels like it will snap even at a low weight. This is the one I fell on last year. I had the test and I do not have arthritis. When I do the exercises from physical therapy, my whole arm trembles. I hope it's not nerve damage and I'm going to do more stretching to loosen it up (probably some of the stiffness is from sitting on my lazy boy reading and watching movies for the past 4 months?
)2010 goals: lose 25 pounds, cut out refined sugar and work out at least 4 days a week. I will slowly see if I've got the chops/heart for running through interval run/walks and go from there. This thread IS inspiring!

Perfect.
![]() You guys and your races and triathlons are my fitness heroes. I'm not ready to commit to any of that, but there is something about stating your goals (like telling all of your friends you've quit smoking) that makes you stick to them. Here's to the new year ahead!

45 minutes on the bike today while my daughter was on the treadmill. Then I lifted while she did an ab workout tape. Feeling the quads from the run yesterday.
Must be from the hills. It's also been awhile since I've run on pavement. Most my runs have been on the treadmill or trails. I need to go out and get a new calender/log book. Do you guys log your workouts? I never did running in college but started in 99 when I started doing triathlons. Nothing to anal, mostly time, distance, pace, location. Sometimes some thing unusual like when I see deer trail running. So I have some great weeks to look back at. When I look back at some of the weeks I don't know how I found the time to get in all in. |

Alright guys, I'm off to do some weights- upper and lower today as there's no cardio scheduled. Tomorrow I'll either run the 3 mile trail or do a kickboxing dvd, depending on trail conditions. I envy those of you with gym access- I would love to have a treadmill, bike, or elliptical to use in the winter

I'm not really a group exercise person but I am tempted to do some yoga classes . Mix things up a bit. I just love this thread! It really is great to see everyone motivate each other. Can't wait to see our progress throughout the year. Hydro therapy on my feet felt awesome today! I'm pretty much toast for the rest of the day.........

You all have already been so busy this year! I'm "up nort" ... it's too darn cold to do anything! I haven't stepped foot out the door all day. Finally I resorted to using a honest to goodness dial up connection to find some sort of entertainment!
I'm sure JG would laugh at the temps here (Finland, MN) and churn out an easy 5 miles or so but I went out yesterday, thought about strapping on the snow shoes and felt like I had frostbite on my eyelashes (the only exposed part of my body) in a matter of 10 minutes. No gracias. Hubby's ATV said the same thing last night and had to be towed off the lake... the oil was apparently starting to gel up. ![]() Ok. My goals. For 2010: I will run a 5k by 3/31. I'd really like to do the frozen 5k but don't know if I can get my sissy self out there to train for it. I will lose 10 lbs before 4/22 (trip to Hawaii). I will run while on vacation. I will run my second 5k by 7/31. I will not slack on my weight training. Muscle tone and strength is important. I will run my third 5k by 12/31. That's right ... I will run three 5k's in 2010. Improving each time. Maybe if I'm progressing well by mid year I will re-evaluate and increase the third race to a 5 miler or a 10k. For the kick butt period. I want to get my diet under control. Controlling my blood sugar levels will help me train more consistently and will make me feel better overall (and will help me drop lbs). I will also stick to my original goal of wanting to be able to run a 5k on the treadmill in under 32 mins. Overzealous? Maybe. I'll put in mucho miles to try to make it happen tho.
