Alcohol is certainly one of my worst enemies. Alcohol has calories, then my metabolism slows down, then I'll get the munchies, then I'll wake up sluggish and not workout as hard. I was a machine this past summer when I had to take 4 months off alcohol for health reasons.
Sound like you have it down...I am still all over the place.....But hope to get into the same kind of pattern.......Alcohol I can give up without a second thought...Cigarettes are a different story.....

I have it down, just can't always follow it!

Today I finally felt better after a 10 day cold. Shoveling and then a 2+ hour commute this AM got in the way of a run though. Can't wait for a great run tomorrow AM. Off to bed know so I can enjoy it!

Just back from a run. It is about 5 degrees outside. The first minutes were like "Darn it is cold!". The rest of the run was like "This is awesome!"

Thank goodness my cold is gone so I could get out there. I mentally needed an outdoor run today.

Nice! I'm having a reeeaaaalllllllly hard time gearing up for my run today It's quite a blizzard out right now- blowing and snowing and blowing and snowing- and it's heavy, heavy stuff. Yuck.

I don't blame you. All my trails were plowed so I was running on hard packed snow. Very comfortable!

Good luck if you go!

Thanks! The only way I'm not going is if the snow has caused the trees to bow and block the trail. I've only seen that happen once after a REALLY heavy snow. Otherwise- bring on the blizzard!

Same here! No wind yet but the snow is coming down heavily. No outside run for me but I will be heading out to play with the dogs when it starts to accumulate!

Mikey - quitting smoking was THE hardest things I've ever done. I quit cold turkey in November 2005. I did have a small relapse in May of 2008 when I was in Playa and very, very drunk. when I came home from that trip, I had probably 4-5 more but didn't enjoy them at all and I realized that they have no place in my life anymore! However, the horror stories of my bitchiness are legendary in my house. I will never forget day 99 into my quit, I actually had a fit of road rage and got out of my car and confronted a complete idiot of a driver. Soooooo not like me. At that point, I think I could have killed someone and not felt a shred of guilt but justification that they shouldn't have screwed with someone who was quitting smoking. I'm going to PM you a funny quit smoking joke that someone shared with me a looooooooong time ago.

Roger that......I have heard that lifting/running help.....I actually smoke one right before we get in to the gym and one right after......UGH....

People who are quiting smoking need some kind of visible warning sign on them.....

I always said I wish they had a rehab facility for smokers because it was so hard I just wanted to go someplace where I wasn't allowed to have them!

Any of you guys familiar with the Arthur Lydiard method of training for marathons? I was letting my wander this morning during my run and remembered this man.......I had the luxury of going to a running camp back in the late 70's and had the pleasure of meeting him, running with him and learning a few tricks along the way. Mind you, I was in my early teens so I didn't have the knowledge of exactly who he was until much later on. I just read his training guidelines and have come to realize this guy is a total maniac!!! The mile guidelines alone for those who are most likely Olympic potential blew me away.....100 miles per week for training. Seriously, that is a lot of running!!!! Anyhoo, his hill resistance training is what I remember most about my weeks at his camp. That and running my a$$ off! He has since passed away....2004, he was "The Maker of Champions- The Father of Jogging"................

For those of you who are interested, here are some links of his training methods and general info......
