I must totally agree. 4 of us walked up there to have a drink. When we went to sit down at a table the guy said 200 peso minimum consumption per person. Um, yeah, I don't think so. I was planning on having a diet coke and an appetizer. Not going to spend 200 pesos for that! We told them to have a nice day and left. I'd much rather bring a cooler and a bag of chips and sit on the beach on my towel!

Wow-really amazing how perspectives can be different. We spent several days at Canibal last March and found it great.Food was very good and minimum expenditure spread over an entire day was pretty reasonable.Music was nice and varied-quite a bit of reggae to relax to .With only about 25 or so groupings on the beach you don't feel like you're laying on an aircraft carrier a la Kool or Mamitas.High on the list for next month and March for us.

I actually found Canibal Royal Beach Club a couple years back, and loved it there. The vibe is great, layed back, and likem others have said not so crowded. met some great people there too, and ended up being there for 6 hours when I was just taking a morning walk!

Ok then, well there was a place right by there then, i remember it because there was a waverunner graveyard next to it, and seeing that Canibal Roayal is next to it, I assumed it was the same place.

great area...indeed

Our condo is right around the corner from there and I cannot believe how much more buzz there is in the area than there was when we bought about four years ago. Does anybody know what's going in on the corner block between 30 and 32 on 5th? I assume it's residential with locales on the lower level, but when I was down in October, they had just started, so it was hard to tell.

The block between calle 28 and 30 on AV. 5 has more eateries, ice cream, Starbucks, etc. than any other one block area on 5th and there is always "action" there.

We stopped in Canibal Royal last Dec, again in March and again in May. Never had anyone suggest a "cover" or minimum charge, drinks were same as other beach bars, and the flatbread pizzas were outstanding.
That said there isn't much chance in heck we'll pay a cover anywhere with all the choice in Playa. That will kill them.

I was there in May with a group of gals, we took one of the large sunbeds - we were told there was $1000 peso minimum and the bed would be complimentary. Since we intended to have lunch and a few cocktails, 4 of us has no problem spending the $1000p and we had a great, chill place to relax all afternoon. The service was great and the food was outstanding. Will definitely be back.

The large sun beds look great for a group and all the clubs charge for lounges and umbrellas so I guess it isn't unreasonable to have them at a premium. We just sat in some of the funky chairs at the edge of the beach so no minimum I guess?
