Lady A and Sunstarved hit Playa Oct 2008

So we(being Joshua and I , and I being April) are planning another trip to Playa Del Carmen , and I am soooo exicited. So exicited that I want to relive my last trip there in the form of a trip report. I am going to figure out how to post photos this time as I tired a trip report before and had all kinds of badness with it...IE lost all my work! LOL which resulted in me drinking too much wine trying again and presto magic lost it all again. So with another year on me and hopefully some much gained patiance I can do it!
Here it comes my awesome first trip to the magical world of Playa Del Carmen!
Attachment 9665

Day one:

LIke so many travelers we wake up in dark after barley sleeping. We were so exicted to get there. Lucky my older brother Rob lives like 10 min. from the airport so we spent the night at his place, never less we were up at 4 and heading to the Calgary airport! I am sooo exicited I have been to PV twice but never been to the caribbean side of Mexico. Let me tell you I was blown away! Pv is nice and we had a great time there with the kids, and when I was younger I had fun partying there but Playa Del Carmen really is AWESOME!
So we get to the airport I eat some b-fast and Joshua checks are flight info like 100 times to make sure everything is order. It is, we are flying air Mexicana and stopping in Mexico for a 2 hour stop over.

Mexico City airport....I am almost embarrassed by this storey but feel it is important to share so no one else has to dish out 30 bucks....or you might want to... you be the judge. We touchdown in MC and are cruising along when this airport guy asks us if we are staying in MX or going on. We let him know that we are going to Cancun in a few hours. Well he offers to take us up to our next gate and tells us where we can get some food, and drinks, he is making really nice small talk with us. He has grabbed a wheel chair and tells me to have a seat he zips us through the airport and gets us through security in like 5 min. We are all smiles until he asks for the money... He then says well if we won't pay up he'll just brisk us back to where we started. We take a quick second and both agree just to give him the cash (ouch). So he thanks us and takes off. So we go get drinks and taco’s and talk about our crazy experience! WE felt a little silly but let it go. The tacos we tasty as were the micheladas and we were almost in Cancun! So close to PDC oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We land in Cancun, I forgot to mention that I have a cold...when we are descending my ears begin to feel like they are going to burst and blood is going to begin trickling down any second.....I am holding my ears in so much pain...PLEASE LAND!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhh touch down! We head over to the buses and get our tickets for the next Ado bus into PDC. The bus is in under an hour so we grab a beer and take in all the tropical surroundings, and breathe in the air. Sweetness! We get on the bus and head into town! ALMOST THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE get to the bus station grab our bags and decide that we are going to walk to our condo. After all that sitting our bodies could use some movement...half way into it I think a cab may have been better! The sound of our wheels on the cobblestone and the vibration get to be a bit much. (I think this is why Josh has suggested that we back pack this next time...I have one question: What about my shoes?)

Arrive at Las Olas Condominiums on 1st avenue and 30th street the manager is waiting for us and invites us up for drinks. This is awesome as it getting late I think it’s like 8 or 9 at this time and going out shopping is the last thing on my mind but sipping some tequila sure is! After we settle in and do our we are in PDC dance we head upstairs to have some drinks...Everyone has had a BBQ that night and drinks are being poured...I love it here! We have a few bevies and get some options on where to grab a late night bite to eat...I forget where we went but we munched on some yummy tacos, and sipped on a tequila. We head back to our new “home” and crash in paradise!
anything that I forget Sunstarved will go and fill in the blanks for me...I just know it!

Our Condo for the week:

(see next post.... technical difficulties.... )

Great start to your trip report!! Keep it coming!!

I am so sorry that you got scammed. The Mexico City airport is big and it very simple to get overwhelmed. This makes it easy for these individuals to prey on travelers. In general, the people who work inside airports will never come up to you to ask if you are lost etc.

Day Two:

Which is kinda day one, but you guys get what I mean right? Day one is travel time get there, fall in love with PDC and go to bed ....So here is our day!

I wake up with a huge smile, I love it here! Joshua who has been here before recommends that we check out the beach by the ferries. You can get fresh fruit there and we can grab a coffee as we head over. Joshua who can’t live without coffee gets his fix , and off we go. It’s October so it’s not so busy, which is nice for a morning stroll. We walked up La Quinta Ave. I just loved all the smells and sounds. When we got to the beach I was so happy to see all the ladies with the fresh fruit! We must have not had our camera otherwise I would have got a picture with me and the fruit. Watermelon, mango, coconut, and papaya! Yummers.
We checked out the shops in the area, it is not where we would go but it was nice to see the plaza. We then checked out the ruins of Xaman-Ha in PlayaCar. It was a wicked hot morning so we thought some iguanas would be basking out there. They were not . We walked around and checked out the sites. I was starting to get the hunger and thought we should head back for some eats.

We head back to the condo and decide that we should hit the beach! Mamita’s here we come.

Again I am in love! Our server decides I look like Pink and calls me Pink for the rest of our stay. Like I said it’s not too busy so we have a good chat with him and find out all about his life . We order up some michelada, ceviche, and a club sandwich. The drinks are cold and refreshing and the food is prompt and tasty.

After some down time and another round we hit the ocean for a swim. In my head I have already decided that I want to live here. Tee hee! Hours pass and drinks flow! The beach club is closing so home we must go! I’m having a hard time remembering what we did for dinner. We haven’t picked up our supplies yet so we must have eaten somewhere! Josh figures we were looking for El Fogon but we couldn’t find it so we ate at some other little taco place...

Number Three

Day Three
The day before we asked people in our area where to go for coffee, Coffee Cafe! We walked over and ordered some Amerciano’s . Joshua is now in heaven he has found the perfect espresso!

We have got to stock up. Off to Mega! Now I love grocery shopping so I was in my heaven! We are there for a hours going up and down finding little treasures. I’m not a huge fan of the hot dog but taste these hotdogs in this lime sauce , and I can’t seem to get enough of them. Joshua get’s his Don Juilo tequila, and for Lady A Agavero! We pack up our backpacks and head back. We are so overloaded that one backpack strap breaks. We hail a cab and get back with our loot to make lunch...Oh yeah and put that tequila into the freezer.

In the afternoon we head out to do some clubbing. We get some elegant martinis at Basico. I think our bill was 60.00 usd for two rounds of drinks...so not great for the budget. The music was all lounge and chill, and drinks were tasty but yeah a little pricey. We stroll around for a few more drinks and then went to eat dinner at HC D’Montary...Josh gets us lost, I mean real lost cause every street looks the same to him at this moment so maybe it’s this one oh no wait it’s that one...WE finally found it and made it just in time, closing time is in half a hour.
We walk the beach home to a late night tequila!

Day Four life is a Beach

We are going to explore town. We are also looking for a place to get some nice tattoos . Joshua heads over to Coffee Cafe and I stay back to make up some breakfast. There is a light mist today , which is refreshing. I love to cook and am inspired with all the local produce... here is a breakfast creation:

No luck finding a decent place to get a tattoo, but we did find some fun things.... The afternoon is turning sunny and we say what the heck lets hit the beach club....
The walk from our place to Mamatia’s:

Josh chilling out:

Me chilling out:

Sexy Beach beds at the club:

Ahhhh, life as a beach bum. I love it!

The colors were great...The condo belongs to some friends..I haven't seen their place in Calgary but if they are that good with colors I would love her to help recreate the feeling at my home here!

More to come....keeping it coming Lady A

Ok, I am not going to sit back and not defend myself. Pay close attention to the quoted paragraph... we paid $60 for a couple rounds at Basic (after being across the street at Babes for the crazy mountain margaritas.. so we are both slightly intoxicated at this point.. and I say slightly because I am also not a greenhorn.. just enough of a buzz to be feeling the good vibrations and being totally laid back); Josh got us lost (trying to find a place he had only been once before with the help of a local... to be fair, all the concrete buildings down Juarez and that end of town are very similar and the sign for HC is not very obvious until you see it and feel like a moron.. we must have walked by it a few times in the process.. my trusty co-pilot getting more and more frustrated as the hunger starts to grip her mind like an octopus and tipping me two cents @ every turn)
We made it. We ate it. We loved it. That's what was important. Not the fact that I am too masculin to ask for directions...
