![]() ![]() Just read Jamey's last TR and you'll see why I look up to Big Don!The only thing that would make it better is if Big Don had actually been there with us (I suppose Jamey could have come as well). Sorry to let you down Big Don, but I did not play any clever tricks on my Tequila Girl like you do to Jamey! Saturday's report should be coming tonight! |

Day 5 - Saturday
We woke up early and noticed that it was cloudy/windy/rainy so we rolled back over until about 10AM. It was evident that this would be the first non-beach day that we’ve ever had in Playa. Per a recommendation from Cheri at the Blue, we went up to Nativo on avenida 30 and maybe Constituyentes. Breakfasts were in the 45-55 peso range and 30 pesos for a giant smoothie. This place reminded me of a more local and inexpensive version of 100% Natural. I had some sort of granola/fruit/yogurt mix and TG had some sort of mushroom and cheesy omelet. Great food and highly recommended. Not quite as good as La Cueva Del Chango, but then again not much is. ![]() ![]() ![]() We got to Mega by 11:45 to meet Rick and Linda for a ride to the shelter for the dog wash. Given the cold/rain, I wasn’t sure if they would show up but before long they did. I bought a couple big bags of dogfood to donate the shelter at Mega. We rode out to the shelter with Beth, Scott, and Jan. It was too cold to wash the dogs, so we just hung out for a couple hours and played with the dogs. I get somewhat nervous around dogs, but these dogs were extremely well behaved and happy to see us. Beth giving out treats ![]() ![]() Little puppies in quarantine (they keep them separated until they are a certain age) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The dogs even liked me ![]() TG playing with puppies and very happy to be doing so! She was in heaven. TG said that it was her favorite part of our trip. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() TG wanted to take this dog Grace home with us ![]() ![]() ![]() If you let the dogs jump on you, you get a bit dirty! But it is a great kind of dirty. ![]() Fantastic group shot. Back row (left to right)… Scott, Beth, can’t remember her name, JG, Jen, Jan, Andy Front row (left to right)… TG, Rick, and Linda ![]() After we’d sufficiently loved up the puppies, Rick gave us a ride back to the more central area of Playa. We asked him if we should tip him and he said no. He did say that I could buy him a beer later that night, which I forgot to do! I’ll get you in March buddy! Rick dropped us and Beth and Scott at Tacos Gomez, but unfortunately they did not open until 4PM. A bit disappointing because I really wanted to check that place out. But not too disappointing because that meant we could go to El Fogon! We walked through the cold and rain about 4-5 blocks to the El Fogon off calle 6 and Avenida 30, and we walked in still looking all dirty. Here is their menu, sorry about cutting off some of the prices. ![]() ![]() But all you need to know is the Arrachara Nortena is about 95 pesos and is the best food on earth. It is very tender arrachara steak topped with chorizo and melted cheese. My Spanish came in handy as the waiter explained that they were out of chorizo but they could substitute in pastor. It wasn’t quite as good as the chorizo but the meal was still awesome. ![]() TG ordered the Pechuga de Pollo Especial (chicken breast, about 75 pesos) and also really liked it. ![]() Random street musician. We figured since we took his pic we should tip him. ![]() Here the 4 of us are. We had a great time getting to know Beth and Scott. Very interesting people with lots of adventures to share. ![]() We got back to the hotel and it was still cold and rainy so we just laid down in bed to read a bit, and before I could get to page 5 of my next book, the couple beers I had with lunch knocked me out cold. By the time we got all cleaned up for the night, it had stopped raining and the wind died down, so we didn’t notice the cold as much. We weren’t really that hungry after our El Fogon lunch, so we just each had a couple tacos at a taco joint off of avenida 10 and maybe calle 12 or so. The tacos were 10 pesos each and tasty. Very sweet lady who was the cook. ![]() ![]() ![]()

We got to Bad Boys late in the 2nd set and I remembered that Johnny Soda said he would play Brown Eyed Girl for us so that we could dance. I had a couple quick beers to get loosened up and Brown Eyed Girl was the first song in the 3rd set.
This is the first ever video we have of us dancing and doing all of our moves. We break out more moves later in the song. Thanks much to Rob Mackay for taking the video. Thanks much to Michele for taking a bunch of pics of us. ![]() ![]() TG, are you swatting my butt? ![]() More pics ![]() ![]() ![]() Our throw move ![]() Get rid of this hat so we can do some real dancing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not sure what move this is, but I guarantee it looks more graceful on the video ![]() When we are really into it, we do a double flip. It is our toughest move to pull off as I have very little leverage to pull her over on the 2nd flip. I have to give it everything I’ve got as you can see in the pic (TG doesn’t feel very flattered when she sees this pic – “Hey, am I that big that you have to look like that when you are flipping me?” , and as you can see in the video we didn’t stick the landing. ![]() Thanks to murrsay185 for this awesome pic! ![]() I thought I was going to get a chance to relax after our dance, but JJ immediately called me up to help him sing Red Neck Mother by Jerry Jeff Walker. ![]() My favorite pic of myself in a long time. I am so not a musician but in this shot I actually look like I know what I am doing. That’s a George Strait curve on my Stetson as well. ![]() Rob Mackay got some more video of me on stage There was a Peep Meet scheduled for Sharon’s birthday, but the weather kept a fair amount of people away. Those of us that were there sure had fun though. ![]() Two John’s trying out my Stetson ![]() ![]() The girls dancing and signing ![]() A couple other pics. ![]() ![]() Michelle’s Rob and Mayte ![]() Beautiful Bad Boys bartenders (Char, can’t remember her name, Erika, and Janna). Erika was in charge of refilling my Sol, and she always made sure I had 2 limes. ![]() We spent much of the evening dancing. We incorporated some fancy salsa footwork into regular dancing and in general just had a great time. We pretty much camp out at the edge of the bar and dance floor so that we have a place to put our drink but so we can also watch and partake in the dancing. The last song of the night was Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy by Big & Rich. JJ said he was going to have me do the bridge part, but I figured since he had my sing earlier, he probably wasn’t going to bring me up during this song. Ladies dancing on the bar include Janna, Ale, and Mayte (celebrating her birthday again tonight!). ![]() ![]() Once JJ busted into the bridge part of the song, I knew I wouldn’t be singing so I jumped up on the bar as well. Erika or Janna told me later that they have never seen a guy dance on the bar before, but the song was “Ride a Cowboy” and I had my Stetson on, so what was I supposed to do? ![]() ![]() Whenever the band would say “Save a Horse, Ride A Cowboy”, I of course would point at myself. Nice work by Bea in not falling off the bar. ![]() Happy Janna ![]() They did one final song and TG joined Janna on the bar. Janna was very cool, we will miss her. ![]() ![]() ![]() Spent awhile chatting with JJ after the band was done. He is the man. ![]() The music has long since ended but Janna wants me to take her for a swing. ![]() ![]() ![]() What the heck, why not another flip? She stuck the landing! Nice work Janna! ![]() Beth and Scott showed up and we hung out visiting with them and John. We were kind of happy the weather was bad because otherwise Beth and Scott probably would have been off on one of their adventures. This way they had to hang out with us.

Everyone else was going to El Bar, but we had to make a stop first. In our 2nd trip to Playa, we partied at Carlos and Charlie’s and really had a great time with the head waiter Adrian. We always stop back to see him. There was a big party going on when we arrived and Adrian was leading the charge. We call him Pequena (as in Pequena below the belt), a long story involving stupid guy humor.
![]() TG loves bartender Miguel. He loves pouring her Don Julio. Amazingly, it is cheaper here than at the Luna Blue. ![]() ![]() This is the one non-beer drink I had all week. A big old pina colada hits the spot once in a while. A whopping 135 pesos at this joint though. ![]() We were spying on Pequena for awhile and when he saw us we had a joyous reunion. ![]() ![]() TG’s Miguel. ![]() ![]() The tour group left the bar and it returned to its normal fairly dead self. We did hang out for a bit with Donna and Will from Alabama. TG had to do some tequila with each of them. ![]() ![]() As the place was largely deserted, Pequena put some salsa music on for us and took some pics of us (and of course some country swing after the salsa was done). These were pics during the salsa dancing, sorry no video! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After hanging our for an hour or so at Carlos and Charlie’s, we headed down to El Bar. Look at these babes! Beth and TG. ![]() For whatever reason, I decided to take a LOT of pics of TG tonight. Those of you who think she is hot will at least enjoy. Whatever Beth was doing was really amusing TG. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Enough pictures already JG! ![]() Nice look John. ![]() A rare photo of Scott not fishing or getting his haircut ![]() Mayte, Ale, their friend Lola and some other dude. Lola and I salsa’d a bit, but as she teaches salsa, I wasn’t quite up to her standards. ![]() No idea who this random Mexican is who is hanging on my bride. ![]() We still weren’t ready to call it a night, so we walked down to the Mohito Queen on 1st and 12th. It was completely packed, so at that point we quickly decided to call it a night and got home around 1. This was the worst weather we’ve ever had in Playa and certainly one of our most fun days. Great food, drinks, friends, dancing, and dogs. RIP Captain Dave, owner of Bad Boys. Click HERE to skip the comments and go directly to Day 6. Last edited by January Guy; 01-28-2010 at 08:33 PM.. |

Would be fun to be in Playa with you sometime, I'm thinking you may be the one gal who could keep up with TG in the tequila shot department.
