Welcome to JG and TG in Playa, January 5th-11th, 2010. Please just refer to us as JG and TG on this forum even if you know our real names. I generally only refer to people by their real names on the forum if it seems they don’t care, but if you want me to edit anything just let me know. Anyway, onto Day 1… Day 1 - Tuesday This is our 6th straight January in Mexico. We were so antsy Monday AM that we both woke up at 3AM, stayed awake until 5 (TG showered and did her hair), then slept from 5 to 7. The flight was perfect and we were at the gate at 2:28PM. The immigration and customs lines were longer than we have had in quite a while. ![]() ![]() We were at the ADO counter at 3:10. ![]() I think that was a rookie mistake made by a veteran as had we gone straight to the bus, I may have made it in time to buy tickets. Just buy tickets directly at the bus stop. As it was, we caught the bus that left terminal 3 and 4:10, left terminal 2 at 4:20 and got into Playa at 5:20. TG waiting with a 100 pesos screwdriver (beers were 60 pesos). ![]() The view as you look right immediately after exiting the airport. Coconuts Bar. ![]() The view of the meeting point which is to the left after exiting the airport and the bar next to the meeting point. A good spot to meet people if you are arriving at different times. ![]() ![]() The view straight ahead when exiting the airport ![]() First pic of us together, waiting to catch the bus. TG dressed up all hot like and me completely mismatched wearing a Stetson, beach shirt, and running shoes. How did I hook this hot babe anyway? ![]() Here’s the ATM right outside the bus station on 5th and Juarez when you arrive in Playa. Got my first 3,000 pesos, with an 11 pesos fee. ![]() We got checked into the Luna Blue and had a quick beer (25 pesos) and Playa Colada (70 pesos). Equinenut and MageMay1120 were at the bar and said “Are you on the forum? Are you January Guy?” That wasn’t the last time I heard someone say that! Had a good chat with them and they said they were meeting Kathy.web and queencityfan at the Luna Blue in order to head out for dinner. I knew if we met those ladies there we’d drink way too much beer and never make it out to dinner before Mike Grabow starting playing and the night would get really ugly. So, we made a quick escape before the other ladies showed up as we knew we’d see plenty of them later that night and the rest of the week. We went to Pastorcitos on 30th and 28th for dinner. Here is the menu. ![]() ![]() We had the combo platter for 185 pesos. A huge helping of various chickens, porks, and beefs. Quite tasty and very cheap for all we got. Even the Bohemia beer was only 20 pesos at this place and vodka-tonics were only 40 pesos. Also great service as we were the only people in the place. We had the combo platter, 2 beers, a vodka tonic, 2 waters, 2 tacos pastor, soup, and chips all for 280 pesos before tip! ![]() ![]() ![]() It was COLD (low 60's and windy) in Playa for the first time ever in all of our trips, so we went to Wal-Mart to get TG a sweatshirt for about $28. We also got sunscreen for 100 pesos for 8 ounces of SPF 15 and 120 pesos for 10 ounces of SPF 30. We never check bags on the way down so we always buy sunscreen at Wal-Mart. One interesting thing I noted was that in the cooler at the checkout lines, Coke Zero’s were 5 pesos, regular cokes were 6 pesos, and diet cokes were 7 pesos. Weird. TG had some new (bad) shoes on so we cabbed it back to the hotel and Mike Grabow was singing away and the party was going strong. TG with Playa’s most famous dog (this will be added to one of Rick’s upcoming slideshows) ![]() Queencityfan, equinenut, Magemay1120, Kathy.web ![]() Queencityfan and snappysammy ![]() Rob and I ![]() Mike Grabow ![]() Mike and TG each had a few of these ![]() Mike doesn’t like the taste of tequila ![]() BCSunlovers, Rob, and Transit ![]() Mike played some great tunes, including Toes by the Zac Brown Band and Show Them to Me by Rodney Carrington. If you haven’t heard Show Them to Me, You Tube it and you’ll know why I am smiling. ![]() Rick, TG, Mike, and I. Mike seemed so disgusted with the tequila that I told him I’d buy him anything he wanted so I got him a Jack on the rocks. After that got added to my tab, he then told me that he drinks free at the Luna Blue anyway. ![]() ![]() Rick and Lenny ![]() Mike’s aunt and uncle who followed him around everywhere he went (14 gigs per week) ![]() ![]() Late in the show, Joe showed up. I remembered Joe from several years ago at Captain Dave’s. He has cerebral palsy but doesn’t let it stop him from dancing or getting close with the ladies. Here he is with Mike’s friend Erika and TG. He jokingly refers to his style of dancing as pole dancing. ![]() ![]() ![]() TG and Erika dancing and looking hot ![]() ![]() ![]() As Toby Keith would say, “She’s a Hottie!” ![]() TG and I did some swing to our Playa swing song (Brown Eyed Girl) and Jorge kept us in supply of Dos Equis and tequila. Jorge even quickly realized that I need 2 lime slices in my beers, as did every other bartender in Playa so I didn’t even carry my own limes around with me on this trip! It was Erika’s last night and she was partying hard. She was trying to get every guy in the place to dance without much luck. I finally decided to give her a twirl during the 2nd time Mike played Toes. After trying to lead at first, she finally settled in nicely. Great gal. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mike finishes the night singing Bad Bad Leroy Brown and Joe howling and barking as Mike requested we do. ![]() ![]() The music wrapped up around 11 and we hung out and visited with Mike until about 11:30. Great guy and great entertainer. We then put on some long pants and I donned my Stetson so that we could finally see this Rodeo Mix country bar. http://www.playa.info/playa-del-carm...untry-bar.html It was closed, but we didn’t get out of the cab so we figured it was just closed for the night. We had the cabbie drop us near Bodeguita de Medio so we could do some salsa. Right after we got there, the band took a break. The placed wasn’t busy so we strolled up 5th and called it a night. So nice to be back in Playa! ![]() Click HERE to skip the comments and go directly to Day 2. Last edited by January Guy; 02-28-2011 at 10:36 PM.. |

Hola JG and TG!
Scott and I had sooo much fun w/ you guys in Playa! Sounds like after we left the weather didn’t get any better, but it looks like you had fun on the dance floor!!! I still cannot believe how much TG resembles old school Tawny Kitaen (otherwise known as the infamous girl that danced on the white car in the Whitesnake video)! ![]() Anyway…cannot wait to see more of your report. I hope to get started on ours this weekend!

Hopefully we'll end up in Playa at the same time as you sometime, I think we would party well together. Let's see, you were in Playa in November and I was there in January. Who can finish their report first? Or should we see if you can finish day 2 before I get my report completely done?

I did not eat on 5th once the entire trip (that was kind of a goal). I ate right off 5th a couple times (e.g. Carboncitos), but never on 5th!!! |
