A long weekend in Dallas - a trip report

This is sort of a teaser as I am too tired to write more today. But here is already a pic that I like a lot...

you should be too tired after that long flight home...I'm pooped..I spent all day in bed being totally lazy. But.. I had a blast while you were here.

Rita, I am glad you did as I had a blast too. Now I only need to find out what's going on on my credit card account and why a pharmacy wants to send me medications that I didn't order...

Okay, let's start. Came back home from Zurich late, unpacked suitcase, packed suitcase, slept about three hours, woke up with a terrible headache and was off to Frankfurt by train. Security was easy so I was at the gate 2 hours before departure. Since I still have the silver 'I am important'-card from Lufthansa I went to the lounge to have some water.

Slept a lot during the flight but the crying children were annoying. Flight was full of indians which rather surprised me. After 10.5 hours we arrived in Dallas on time. Immigration was a nightmare since there were only 5 counters open for foreign nationals. Took me one hour to get through and I was rather advanced on the line. After us 4 more flights came in so I don't even wanna think about how long it took them to get out...

Finally I made it through immigration and customs and went out to find Rita and her friend Brenda waiting for me.

In the car and off we were... first stop at a drugstore to get pain killers and then we went to Downtown Dallas to meet with Mikey and Erica. We arrived at their place, Rita was told to leave the keys in the car which is what she did. Out of habit she locked the car then...

Erica came down to get us and I finally met her for the first time. Mikey was upstairs and I was able to admire their beautiful appartment with my own eyes. I especially liked their modern phone.

Just to show you that the weather was not very welcoming...

We headed to Campisi's then to have dinner.

Slim joint us there.

After dinner we went up to the penthouse of Mikeys and Erica's building from where you have a great view over Dallas.

Then we were shown the movie room in the building...

We saw the pool and the gym and the sauna... Rita found a locksmith that opened the car for her and we were on our way 'home'. When I went to sleep I had been up nearly 24 hours and was a little tired.

Slept through the night and woke up around 8 the next morning. When we were ready we took out to take Sammy for a short walk

Loved the mailboxes...

Then we were off for a shopping day. Passed at this what we thought was a thai temple

which turned out to be vietnamese. The people there were very friendly and asked us in and showed us around.... love the adventures when playing tourist.

Had lunch at Jakes...

Found Mr. Bumper waiting for us...

And then it was time for the peep meet at El Fenix. Trish had come all the way from Austin.

Finally met the famous Miss R.

Saturday morning we got up early as we were to meet Trish, Char, Shirly, Donna and Vikky in Fort Worth. We had agreed on meeting up around 10:30 as the western parade was to start at 11. First Rita stopped at the new stadium in Airlington.

Then we continue our drive to Fort Worth and the phone rings. It's Trish who tells us that Char is sick and went home, while Vikky is sick as well and Donna stays with her. So it's only Trish, Shirley, Rita and myself left.

Rita and I are soooo ready for the parade to start. And then they are there...

Just fits...

Finally we had enough after 1.5 hours of horses... Trish and Shirley had arrived and we were hungry. So we went to eat.

After we had lunch and the parade was over we went to the water gardens.

That drum major/majorette??? was really prancing and strutting his/her butt. We were confused about "it's" gender.

I don't think I have ever seen so many horses in one place.

Those persons are called 'ladieboys' in Thailand...

He danced and threw his legs high in the air a couple of feet away but I saw that too late to take a pic.

From the water gardens we decided on a whim to take the Molly, a bus that rides around for free in Downtown to get on another bus to the stockyards. Since our driver called the other bus we just had to hop off and on...

Then we were at the stockyard. Rita flirting with cowboys and giving their horses ice.

Then Miss Shirley on her famous bull ride. I thought I had taken a video too but I am still not 100 % familiar with the most expensive cam I ever bought.

Then we went to Billie Bobs (yes, I have pics but had to cut back on the number I was to post...). From there we went to the cattle drive that had about 15 pieces of cattle in it. You should have heard the spectators 'WHAT???? THIS WAS IT???????????????'

Then we found that drunk cowboy. I am still not sure that his horse was even more drunk than he was. He said he drank beer while the horse had Jack Daniels. Shirley asked whether she could sit on it. Yes, she could.

After she got off the cowboy had a lot of problems getting back on...

Rita and I had lost Trish and Shirley somewhere in between but before we had to go to the agreed meeting point we found them again. Trish was outside but Monte was inside a candy shop. When we entered she was laughing hysterically and made everyone else laugh with her. Let me show you why...

When we left the shop there weren't many monkeys left.

Btw I took my monkey to the office yesterday and my colleagues laughed their asses off. One asked me if he could buy it here as well and we found a source in Switzerland where he will be ordering some monkeys.

Went back into Downtown Fort Worth to the cars as we had a peep meet at the Trail Dust in Airlington.

What a great report so far, Andrea! As always, your pictures are fantastic...so vivid and colorful! Just like the characters you met up with on this trip! Them's my kinda peeps! Looks like you had a great time!
