There are many artists who have said much worse about Bush, and continued to succeed. I am in the record store on the day that REM, Emmylou Harris and Lucinda Williams CDs come out. Springsteen, Neil Young, Stresiand, etc. all speak out on a regular basis. They survive because they have earned the respect of the music listening world. The Dixie Chicks might want to consider that a lot of people, like me, were never going to buy their CD to begin with.
I dont think its lack of talent that has made it so bad for the chick, i think it was the fan base that appealed to them are conservative. Do you think if Toby Keith spoke out about a Democratic President that he would lose fans? I sincerely doubt it myself because his fan base is mostly conservative. Groups like REM and the others you mentioned dont have a large portion of their fans that are conservatives and therefore they can say anything about Bush and not feel the consequences.
