So we are trying to plan a trip down to Playa Del Carmen in May/June
We are trying to figure out where exactly the Valentin Imperial Maya is. I've looked on tripadvisor and it placed it in the middle of a tropical area. ![]() Then I looked it up on another site and it placed it closer to the town of Puerto Morelos so here I am... We are attending a wedding down there that is being held at the El Dorado Royale. I am for sure not paying the price to stay there so we are hoping to find out what all inclusive resorts are close to the El Dorado. Is the Valentin close by El Dorado? If not please offer suggestions on where to stay that is reasonable and close to the El Dorado. |

Yes, the EDR and the Valentin are close to each other, maybe about a mile apart. The EDR is actually closer to Puerto Morelos but the Valentin is actually in the Playa del Secreto area.
Thing is, the Valentin will probably cost about the same amount as the EDR, there's not going to be much saved by staying at a resort other than where the wedding is being held - and you will have to pay for a day pass to get into the EDR anyway (and that should be about $100/pp) plus a taxi ride to and from. That is one thing that we have struggled with. I have talked to the agent that is handling the "destination wedding" and I have had three different things told to me: First she said we would have pay to get onto the property for both the rehearsal dinner and wedding. Next she said we would just pay for the dinner. Last she said we wouldn't have to pay since we were going to be guests at the wedding. So who freakin knows
![]() Today I looked up cost for both and they were fairly compairable Only difference really was the insurance coverage if we wanted to include it. Is it smart to work through this destination wedding agent (She is in CA and we are in CO) or should I find a local agent that I can actually sit down with? |

I don't know what the specifics of this particular wedding is about but I do destination weddings too and if a guests stays off the resort where the wedding is held, ANY time they come on site, they have to pay a day pass. Lower priced day passes have been arranged by the bride so that an off site guest can attend the actual wedding ceremony, because technically the wedding couple are paying extra FOR the wedding festivities, but I am going to say that you'll be paying something every time you go on site unless the couple pays on your behalf. Since they're already shelling out money to have their wedding, I do think it's a bit much to have them pay more for people who choose to stay off site as that's their own decision to do so. Just my 10 cents though.
Because the prices are so similar, I just can't see why you would want to stay at a hotel other than where the wedding is. You won't be able to spend time with any of the other guests, the wedding couple, or partake in any events that might be planned. I don't think it's worth the $100 price difference between the two hotels. I also don't think it's at all necessary to sit down with an agent, but that's up to you. You should use whatever agent you're comfortable with. |
