I think the song is from around 1980.

The lyrics are.

I rounded first never thought of the worst
As I studied the shortstop's position
Then crack went my leg like the shell of an egg
Someone call a decent physician
I'm no Pete Rose, I can't pretend
While my mind is quite flexible
these brittle bones don't bend

[Chorus:]
I'm growing older but not up
My metabolic rate is pleasantly stuck
So let the winds of change blow over my head
I'd rather die while I'm living then live while I'm dead

Sometimes I see me as an old manatee
Heading south as the waters grow colder
He tries to steer clear of the hum drum so near
It cuts prop scars deep in his shoulders
That's how it flows right to the end
His body's still flexible but that
Barnacle brain don't bend

[Chorus]

So now don't get me wrong
This is not a sad song
Just events that I have happened to witness
And time takes it's toll as we head for the poll
And no one dies from physical fitness
That's how it goes, right to the end
As the days grow more complicated the night life still wins

[Chorus]

Let the winds of change blow over my head

I'd rather die while I'm living then live while I'm dead

Great report. Love the food pics as always! We have an AI booked for April, since it's our first trip to Playa. After reading all of your reports (and all of your wonderful food pictures), I'm wishing we would have booked a place in Playa. Guess we'll just have to plan another trip!

Great report Jim. I have already added to my list of "must dos" a couple of the restaurants and bars you have in your report. Next time I go to Playa I think I will book the same time as you and just follow you around!!

Looking forward to the rest of your report. We went to Bad Boys Feb 11. Started out with only about 30 people and by the time we left around 7:30, looked like about 300 ppl. Tables were borrowed from next door to accomodate the crowd. People were standing out past the flag. It was quite the site! Very disappointed that they were sold out of tank tops and ballcaps though

From Food Carts & Red Queens to Los Amigos

We start out at one of my favorites; I love these things, mmm mmm good.

Then on to the carts.

One good cart deserves another.

This one is very good too.

OK, I going to tell you all, hot dogs are great for breakfast. This cart brushes the inside of the bun with mayo then grills it a bit. I should have gotten two.

Fresh OJ from the motorized cart to wash it all down.

We walk to the pier after the carts so I can get this photo of the round beach bar that has been there as long as I can remember.

Well, at least since 1985 when I took this shot coming into the ferry dock. This was the first time I laid eyes on playa.

Today we are doing a little bar crawl with our friends from home, Jerry & Linda. They are staying in Cozumel and came over for the day. We started out at Canibal Royal.

They had some kind of a photo shoot going on. A bunch of guys are painted up and dressed to look like cannibals and posing with girls in bikinis. It was funny seeing them dressed up like that wearing sunglasses with a drink in their hand.

Our next stop was Kool Beach Club.

We stopped here and sat down at a table. The waiter said he would be right back with menus but after 10 minutes of waiting we left and walked down to El Pirata.

Drinks at El Pirata. Next we stopped at Zenzi for a drink before heading inland.

This was to be our next stop; these pictures were taken a few days later during the day. By the time we got here it was getting dark.

After reading AbsoluteALs thread (“New Hotel, you got to see this one”) about the Red Queen we just had to check it out.

The Hotel Reinaroja has a very interesting bar to say the least. The hotel itself was not open yet I don’t think.

This was for 2 Smirnoff Bloody Marys, 2 Palomas made with Gran Centenario Reposado and a shot of G C rep & a shot of GC Anejo with Sangrita. Good drinks at good prices.

The bar has only been open a few weeks & it was early and we’re the only ones there. Well, the only real people anyway. We checked out the dinner menu and it looked very good. Sorry I did not take any pictures of it. The large area around the bar seems to have special seating areas and some had reserved signs on them.

I have been to a lot of different bars, but never one like this. You can walk all the way thru the bar from 20th to 22nd.

One last stop at the Luna Blue before walking on down 26th to eat dinner

We thought Los Amigos would be good to take Jerry & Linda away from 5th Ave and knew this was a great place to eat.

We start off with a little bean soup.

Donna had the Arrachera Nortena

I think I had the Espada. You can get if with chicken or beef or both. They bring your plate with salad rice and veggies then come to your table with a large skewer of meat and push it off onto your plate.

[

After dinner and a tropical down pour we waded / walked to Ah Coco for brownies and then down 5th so Jerry & Linda could try and make the 10pm ferry back to Cozumel.

Is that top picture a strawberry tart? Did you get it at the carts? If not, where did you get it. It looks really yummy.
