I read Mariana's message over and over again and just don't get where she made anything of it other than helping the dogs at the perrera.
I don't read any "yeah for us", not even between the lines. But maybe it's cause english is not my native tongue? ![]() Like many have said, can't we just focus on helping those poor dogs and not focusing on who made the announcement? thats' the only issue I read between the lines. |

With regard to the Perrera, as a no kill shelter, we cannot ever be on the same page or be seen to be. The Secretary for Health is well aware of how we feel and he has made it very clear in private meetings with us that we too must be aware that the Government's remit is to 'clean' the town of street animals. The law is the law and it will not change. He wishes PPS to make public that the local government is however committed to working hand in hand with us and indeed there are certain steps being taken to make our path easier. Our commitment to the Perrera is to help with food for the animals during their 72 hours wait. We would like to see each animal provided with minimum one small meal per day. As mentioned in the original post, we have been helping too with anaesthesia, which is a separate, very difficult problem. We will continue as always to take one dog at a time from the Perrera, if space permits. We have taken 3 in the last couple of weeks, but unfortunately disease is currently at an all time high on the streets of Playa del Carmen and of necessity the sick and dying animals are in the same kennels as the healthy ones, which means that taking any animals from the Perrera is difficult for us due to the essential quarantining that is necessary and the expense involved in testing for distemper, Parvo and heartworm. We are however fortunate in PDC that our local Perrera is far more humane than many. As stated, we too found it to be much cleaner and all the animals had plenty of clean drinking water. It is our (Malix Pek, Coco's and PPS) hope that the people of PDC will support the food drive and realize just how much difference a small bag of food or a couple of cans of meat can make. Please encourage all your friends to help in any way they can. Last edited by ANDY; 02-25-2010 at 03:20 PM.. |

Bumping this up for the dogs at the Perrara. If anyone needs a ride to buy dog food from Sam's Club, send me a private message & I'll arrange to pick you up.
