For this reason, Chris will be taking charge of any cash donations and all Paypal donations will go via Cathy Heard (heardling)

We will give further details once all the arrangements have been sorted with all parties.

Andy and Chris from PG have been making the arrangements for the food drive and Carrie from PG is working on the poster Andy has designed as we speak.

We (and I speak on behalf of Malix Pek and Coco's too as per our conversations and emails) wish to make it clear that this is not about any of us. This is about making life easier for animals who have no food.

Please can I ask everyone to refrain from the 'Yay for you' comments at this stage as the 'Yay for you" needs to be directed to the people kind enough to donate food, and our gracious hosts at PG's, not those of us (PPS included) who have only needed to have minimum input.

I apologize if I seem rude or abrupt in any way, this is certainly not my intention, I solely hoped that we could finish making arrangements before the announcement. Jen
Very well put, Jen. This is about making the last few days for these dogs a little easier. The situation is so sad.

I read Mariana's message over and over again and just don't get where she made anything of it other than helping the dogs at the perrera. I don't read any "yeah for us", not even between the lines. But maybe it's cause english is not my native tongue?
Like many have said, can't we just focus on helping those poor dogs and not focusing on who made the announcement? thats' the only issue I read between the lines.

Please don't think that there is any intention to 'gag' anyone. The point of a forum is to allow individuals to air their personal views and opinions. We were only a little disappointed as it had been agreed that Chris from PG would be making the announcement once he was ready. We had only made a tentative agreement on the date for the food drive with Carrie the previous afternoon and we hadn't heard back yet if the date was ok, so it caused us a little embarrassment. We will be using Cathy's Paypal account as offered but as she is out of the country at the moment, we felt it would be fair to double check with her on her return. However, no harm is done and certainly we don't feel that any harm was intended

With regard to the Perrera, as a no kill shelter, we cannot ever be on the same page or be seen to be. The Secretary for Health is well aware of how we feel and he has made it very clear in private meetings with us that we too must be aware that the Government's remit is to 'clean' the town of street animals. The law is the law and it will not change. He wishes PPS to make public that the local government is however committed to working hand in hand with us and indeed there are certain steps being taken to make our path easier. Our commitment to the Perrera is to help with food for the animals during their 72 hours wait. We would like to see each animal provided with minimum one small meal per day. As mentioned in the original post, we have been helping too with anaesthesia, which is a separate, very difficult problem. We will continue as always to take one dog at a time from the Perrera, if space permits. We have taken 3 in the last couple of weeks, but unfortunately disease is currently at an all time high on the streets of Playa del Carmen and of necessity the sick and dying animals are in the same kennels as the healthy ones, which means that taking any animals from the Perrera is difficult for us due to the essential quarantining that is necessary and the expense involved in testing for distemper, Parvo and heartworm.

We are however fortunate in PDC that our local Perrera is far more humane than many. As stated, we too found it to be much cleaner and all the animals had plenty of clean drinking water.

It is our (Malix Pek, Coco's and PPS) hope that the people of PDC will support the food drive and realize just how much difference a small bag of food or a couple of cans of meat can make. Please encourage all your friends to help in any way they can.

Bumping this up for the dogs at the Perrara. If anyone needs a ride to buy dog food from Sam's Club, send me a private message & I'll arrange to pick you up.
