Kool Fish

We had an interesting meal at Kool Fish while we were in Playa mid February. There were four of us and we each ordered a entree and a drink, either pop or wine. I also ordered an empanada because I like to try them when I see them on the menu. The food was good, we all enjoyed our meals. When our bill arrived, because of warnings for other restaurants, we tended to really check this trip. The total was 750 pesos. Our meals were priced as per the menu (we were asked upon entering the restaurant if we wanted the English or Spanish menu) but my empanada was 130 pesos instead of 18. Two in our party had 1 glass of wine each and then when they asked for another glass, they were told that there was only that one bottle and just a bit left so they could have that, no charge. On the bill, we were charged for 4 glasses of wine. We pointed out the discrepancies to the waitress and she quickly changed them and returned the bill to us. At this point, we were going over each thing as it was getting almost comical. One of our party was close to where the menus were kept so reached over for one to check a price and here's where it got really interesting. She inadvertently picked up a Spanish menu and we noticed that the prices on that menu were at least 10 to 15 pesos less than on the English menu. Not quite believing what we were seeing, we paid the amended bill which was down from 750 pesos to 548 and left. Yes, in hind sight, we should have challenged the pricing differences on the menus but at that point we just couldn't quite believe what had happened. We thought by telling the list that it might have more impact than just us complaining...

Lol ,, I was gonna post on kool fish in a couple days but might as well now. We too ate there in feb and the food was ummmm just okay , but we had steak. We were asked if we would like a complementary fish (more like fish head) soup which we did,, all had a spoonful and said um NAH it was horrible, I would say something else about it but Ill take the fifth on that one. My strong advise would be not to eat soup there period. Thier magarittas were okay and service was friendly enough except that they did not ask but DEMANDED a 20% tip. So before warned, I do not mind tipping if the food and service is good but I do not like being told to tip. I did give 15% but they complained that was not enough, so I gave a couple more dollars. Would I eat there agian , NO ,,not because of the tip thingy but because of what else I saw, enough said . Have fun

The Spanish menu thing may just be due to being generally clueless - I've recently had lunch at Fusion where three menus had not just different prices, but also different dishes listed

krazzy - what did you see?

I was told later by someone who knows these things that this is a case for, um, correct me if I get the name wrong.......Profecta? I think businesses who do this know exactly what they are doing.

Hi everyone

I am Rocio Flores the manager of the restaurant Kool Fish, I am deeply sorry about the comments I just read its so sad to hear things like that about this place , I want you to know that we are working on it, I already fired the weiter who demand you the 20% of tip.

About the menu it was our mistake we apoligize, I want to tell you that all your comments are helping us to make this place a little better everyday.

I hope that if you come back some day to playa return to Kool Fish and im pretty sure that you might change your idea of the restaurant.

Thank you everyone,

Anna, I think that is the environmental agency. Is this maybe the one for consumer complaints?

Glad to see Rocio Flores read this thread and says he takes it seriously. Have been waiting weeks for the guy from La Pesca to make an appearance after all the stories about his greedy waiter.

We enjoyed a great meal they last March.

Great coconut shrimp but they needed some of the mango dipping sauce like most places have with them. Hint -Hint Ricio.
