liquor prices and grocery cheaper than Canada ?
Hey gang, going to cozumel from march 24th until march 31st and planning on spending a few days in Playa. While staying in our condo in Cozumel, we plan on cooking meals back there to save some money. While planning our budget, are the prices for food in the grocery stores cheaper than back here in Canada ? And what about the liquor prices (especially beer, rum and wine). Any input on this would be very appreciated so we can plan our budget.
We also plan on going to playa to walk on 5th ave and to spend a day at the beach. What's your favorite spot to relax on the beach in Playa ? Or is every beach the same ? Our last question would be to know if there's any local soccer team in playa ? Being big soccer fans, we would like to mix it up with the locals and watch a league game or something! Thanks for your help! |

I want a smooth rum that I cannot find in the states... Cuban maybe? Just looking for something new.
Any recommendations? I will be a little more specific. Dark, vanilla-e, not sharp. Last edited by Sit; 03-01-2010 at 05:39 PM.. |

hey not sure about prices in coz but here in pdc they are definitely cheaper than back home ... we lived in kingston ON and then vancouver and we are able to cut our grocery budget by about 50% compared to van. also i think it really depends on what you eat ....
liquor is much cheaper as well. 6 packs of coronas are 54 pesos vs $13 back home. we dont drink a lot of hard liquor but i have noticed prices are less as well. we usually go to coco beach which is north of constituentes but the beach is breathtaking no matter where you are. funny u mention a soccer game because we were out today and at the end of the day about 10-12 lifeguards setup a soccer field on the beach and played for at least an hour. it was pretty entertaining ... |

The best place on Coz to buy groceries will be the Mega. Don't know about prices in Canada, but most things are less expensive or about the same as in Texas.
The best beaches in Playa are north of Constituyentes. There are two big beach clubs Mamitas and one more whose name escapes me right now. |

BTW, if you are buying beer, try to get the disposable bottles. The deposits are expensive and not worth the time to redeem while you are on vacation. |

Groceries - much cheaper over all - beer - much cheaper!! Don't know about rum, but we bought 40 oz. of nice tequila (our favorite one) for 990 pesos - crazy cheap ... wine seemed to be about the same price - the ones that I was familiar with. We shop at the Mega - they also have a great "ready made food section" (hot and cold)that we love - cheap and freshly made - plus you get to try a bunch of different things. Great bakery!! So many nice beaches after the "redo" - how could you even choose one!! We love the old beach area - in front of the Fusion not far from the ferry dock.
