Wife and I love stopping in this small quaint town on our way into Playa from the airport for a nice lunch and cold cervesa at Pelicanos overlooking the ocean. This is right by the town square ~ you cant go wrong ~ enjoy your stay!! |

We are home now. We LOVE LOVE LOVE Puerto Morelos! I don't know how we have overlooked it all these years.
Syl, I emailed the snorkel guy, but never got a response. We ended up going out with a guy named Jorge on the pier. It was great. We went on a Monday, and there were only five people on the boat. Nice. We stayed at Rancho Sak-Ol, south of the shipping pier. We weren't sure what to expect, as it was said to be the "shoe" beach, but, (and I am torn as to really say all this, because I'd like to keep it to ourselves), it was absolutely amazing. True, the shipping pier keeps almost all foot traffic away from the beach in the southern part of the area, but that is what makes it special. NOBODY was around! The beach in front of the hotel was spotless. Hilda and her crew are helpful and very nice. If you are looking for a totally off the beaten path (Beth and Scott, I am thinking of you) kind of place, rustic but immaculately clean, quiet, breakfast included (you make your own, even squeeze your own OJ-- all you want), cheap ($65/night) ON the beach, you cannot beat this place. A nice little hike into town, but you can take a taxi if you want. Great places to eat in town. We loved Pescadoro, El Pirata (strong margaritas!), and Tacos.com. especially. We loved the laid back, peaceful, relaxed feel of the town. We walked up the north end of the beach to Ixchel Beach Bar, which was a great place to hang out for the day. Like I said, PM is our new favorite place. We love everything about it. We're going back in September! |
