Tell me about Puerto Morelos!

Hi all,

We're be in Playa May 1st to 11th and I want to do a day trip to Puerto Morelos. I have a few questions and would appreciate any info!

Planning on taking ADO or colectivo- any difference?

What are some must do's?

Where should we grab lunch? drinks? a snack?

Where is the best swimming and/or snorkeling?

Are the Botanical Gardens worth a visit? (I enjoy that kind of stuff!)

We're looking to go early in the morning and just hang out/explore... so again, any suggestions much appreciated!

thanks- Christine

We stayed there last year for 3 nights and loved it.

Try visiting the PM website/forum. We took the ADO for maybe $5 but then you need to take a taxi from 307 to the beach/town which is like $2.

A must do is visit the Jungle Spa.

There is a square in town, just 4 blks. that has a few restaurants.

The beach is really good to the north of the pier.

Hope this helps. PM me if you have further questions.

20 pesos (~$1.60) for ADO to PM

We're in Puerto Morelos right now and love this town. Don't get me wrong, we love Playa too but Puerto is just a bit more relaxed. The beaches are beautiful. On the northern end, there's a little beach bar called Ixchel Beach Bar that's fun to hang out at and they serve great drinks. They rent chairs too. Cantina Habanero on Rojo Gomez has great margaritas and some really good food. Plus around the square there's lots of little shops and restaurants. There's a website at www dot vivapuertomorelos dot com that has lots of information. Hope you enjoy the town as much as we do.

I completely agree! We love Puerto Morelos, we have never stayed there, but we have been there for day trips the last 2 times we were in Playa. The beaches are beautiful and big, Ixchel Beach Bar is great! We love to eat at Ojo de Agua, they are right on the beach with great food, amazing view and friendly staff. I would love to actually stay there sometime just not sure where to stay?

I LOVE PM

-ADO as said is cheap. (The Puerto Morelos bus stop is on the Cancun-Tulum expressway, from there are taxis that will take you directly into town for about (20 pesos).

-The town square is just that, a mini town square w/ shops, a church, coffee shop, grocery store and places to eat. Grab a taco for lunch at Dona Triny's (good and inexpensive- open-aired, can overlook the square and water). Also go to the Alma Libra Bookstore- a one of a kind bookstore!

-For drinks on the beach and a snack of chips and guac. go to Ojo de Agua, north of the lighthouse. Happy hr is 2-4 everyday.

-I can say, swimming is good north of the lighthouse. I've never been swimming south, so cannot say one way or another.

-There is a protected reef in PM that is recommended to have good snorkeling. A tour guide for snorkeling is located right inside Posada El Moro hotel (here's a link to their site diverspoint en - diving snorkeling and bicycle rental in puerto morelos mexico ) They also rent bikes there, a nice 1/2 hr bike ride will allow you to see all of Puerto Morelos.

-Yaax Che Gardens is great, we loved it. Do it yourself walking tour and you WILL see wild monkeys- we did!! Go in the later afternoon (around 3-4) for best monkey viewing time.

-If you decide to ever stay in PM, I recommend Posada El Moro, stayed there 3x's.
