nut allergy

my daughter has a nut allergy and wondered if anyone can tell me foods to avoid when eating out. we will be staying in a condo so will have food that we know is okay, but we will obviously want to eat out as much as possible. the chilli sauce that comes on a lot of food i believe has peanut in sometimes. ive forgotten what that is called if someone could let me know we can ask that they leave it off the dish. we tend to order very basic food because of the allergy, so any help would be much appreciated. thanks tish

Nuts translate into NUECES, but peanuts are CACAHUATES

Nuts are not a normal part of the recipes for the salsas, the closest thing could be the Pumpin Seed salsa.

Some recipes call for more than 20 ingredients (up to 50 in some cases), and some are nuts, almonds, sesame seeds, and many many more spices.

A friend who is travelling with us to Playa next month has a severe allergy to all nuts. She said she looked up a translation to use ("Soy alergico a los frutos secos" or "Ella es alergica a los frutos secos".)

Would this be the best way to say it?
If not,how?
And do you recommend buying one of those nut allergy cards?

She's bringing 2 epipens just in case...hopefully we won't have to use them!

The phrase "Soy alergico a los frutos secos" means "I am allergic to dried fruit" whereas "Ella es alergica a los frutos secos" means "She is allergic to dried fruit".

So you can say "Ella" and your friend should say "Soy". However, it might be best to use "nueces y cacahuates" (nuts and peanuts) instead of "frutos secos".

Yeah, I know the conjugation part...I just never learned how to say 'nuts' in spanish.
Thanks though! 4 years of spanish & you'd think they would teach something as critical as allergies
