Buying booze for our room

This is our first time staying in town, and are staying at the Playa Palms. We wanna buy some beer and rum and keep the costs of getting stupid by buying from Walmart or Megga and taking our own booze to the beach.
Is it worth the walk to Walmart or are the other closer stores to buy these items closer to the hotel at a decent price?

You can buy beer in an OXXO but Mega is a quick walk up Constituyentes and the prices will be better. You'll find both your rum and beer there and can pick up a few snacks to keep in your room as well. One stop shopping.

Walmart gets dissed here but they've got the best prices for booze and beer....but you won't find Havana Club rum there you've got to go to Mega for that.

Hell taxis are cheap. When Walmart had a beer special last month.....two six packs of Bohemia/Negra Modelo/Dos Equis Amber for 100 pesos ....I loaded up a taxi with 10 six packs. Worth the 15 peso fare.

Agreed, agreed, agreed! I did it several times while there! Then give one of the boys at the hotel 10 pesos to carry it up the 3 flights!

A cab back from a booze run to Wally World or Mega is definitely the way to go. Besides, after some of the cab rides we've had, you will likely need a libation or two.

Harold,

I had a private transport a couple of weeks ago from the airport to Playa Palms and they stopped on the way in to Playa at Covi which is out on the highway. I bought booze there good price on Don Julio tequila and Tecate Light beer. I think it was right across 307 at Constituyentes. Only problem was I was too hungover from the night before to drink on the beach the next day.

Just got back from Walmart and they have some good beer/booze specials on tonight.

The two that stood out the most were:

A case of 12 Sol for 65 pesos, and a big bottle of Captn Morgan rum on for 120 pesos.

It's only a 10 minute walk to either store. It's well worth the savings...considering a mixed drink can run you $4.50 and up at the bars.

Walk there..and cab back. Forget the backpack..that stuff is heavy! You might as well stock up on snacks and mixers while you are there.

It always puzzled me why mixed drink cost so much in Playa when the bars can buy the alcohol alot cheaper there.

I stopped in Covi this trip to check out prices and they were quite a bit higher than Walmart or Mega. For example GCA was 30 pesos higher than Walmart.
