Don't mean to sound callaus here but this is the second time that a mass shooting has happened in Colorado. You don't hear anyone asking if Colorado is safe. People need to think and look at a map.
I found a website that compares the crime rate between countries. There are some interesting stats...

Canada to Mexico:
NationMaster - Crime stats: Canada vs Mexico

USA to Mexico:
NationMaster - Living in Mexico vs United States

Of course these are for the entire country. Regions within Mexico will have very different stats per capita than the national roll-up.

"Last year there were two shootings in Playa which caused many people concern." ....Ya well I live in Vancouver, Canada and last year (2012) for the first 6 months in Vancouver there were 23 homicides:
http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Hom...307/story.html

The media's job is to sell news and they will spin it up any way they can.

I'm looking forward to my upcoming visit.

It seems a Ukrainian tourist, carrying a large sum of money, was robbed and killed. Doesn't sound like BS. It happens.

I think the moral might be to NOT travel with a "bag of money", should one believe all of the reports.

More bad press for Acapulco. And just when tourism was starting to pick up again there, and Carlos Slim was investing millions to attract back tourists.

Those poor women...and the men too....they must have been terrified.

Edit: and the usual, knee jerk, ignorant Mexico bashing comments below....ugh.

It's the same at Huffington Post, just a bunch of negative opinions. Fine with me, we don't need them here anyway. We're having a great time without them.
