1st Timers to Playa from Orygun

Oregon. We are going to be in Playa May 9-21; for our first time. We have been mapping out our itinerary, and would be interested in everyone's opinion of the absolute 'must do's'. Reading the board, and finding lots of good info - thank you!

Our list so far (random, in no order of importance)

Sitting on the beach (of course)
Bad Boyz Beach Bar
El Fogon
El Bar
Dirty Martini
Yuca Treks to Chichen Itza and cenotes tour
El Paraiso in Tulum
HC de Monterrey
Vagabunda
Tequila Barrel
Om Bar and Lounge
Luna Blue Bar
The Beer Bucket

What have we missed? We are in Playa for 12 nights!

Welcome! Your list is long, but very doable. I think you will find that you have found the spirit of Playa! Beach, drinks, food, people with a little sightseeing.

We will just miss you, we arrive on May 29. Have a great time!

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you have been doing a lot of research.

I would add Taco Carts, Cueva Del Chango, Carboncitos, and Akumal to your list, and delete the Tequila Barrel and the Beer Bucket. And when you go to El Fogon, order the Arrachara Nortena.

But that is just my opinion.

Have fun!

I would add La Fraggata, which is across from PG's Sandbox on 1st Ave. 3 fish tacos and 2 beers for 85 pesos. And their guacamole is to die for!

I would add a peep meet or bar crawl to the list.

We love all of the tips! We are planning a peep meet in El Paraiso on May 11th and a bar crawl on May 9th - our first night in Playa. We will have a sunny disposition, and since it is still early in our trip, our livers will still be functioning well!

That's quite a list and although you'll probably hit many of those places, sometimes the best laid plans fall by the wayside when you hit town. All your senses will lead you in and out of many spots not on the list- take it from a chronic list-a-holic.
Have a great trip! And don't forget the trip report when you return!

If you like to snorkel, be sure to hit Akumal to swim with the turtles- one of my highlights from our last trip.

To our fellow Oregonians:
We will also be there the first two weeks of May. The list looks like ours.

Good Bye rain, Hello sunshine.

wow! That is quite a list... like someone else said, don't feel bad if you don't get to all of it on this trip, once you've come to Playa, you will be back so you can continue your list later, lol, (if you don't finish it this time).. The only advice i can give is just don't' try to plan every second of every day or you may miss out on the real playa and it's wonderful people!! Have a great trip!!!

That sounds like a great list! It's good that you aren't trying to fit too many day trips in. Since it's your 1st time there, it's good to take some time to explore Playa, and maybe you'll discover some different little places that weren't on the list, but will be equally as great! The addt'l restaurants that were added by others are great choices !!! Welcome & have a great time !!!
